Welcome to tinkernut.com’s videocast. If you enjoy these videos, please support them by subscribing or commenting below. In this video, I am going to show you how to tell what process as you are starting up with your computer and what is safe to keep and what you would need to get rid off such as Malware or Spyware viruses.
So what you want to do is go down to the Start menu and type in msconfig or if you have XP, go to Start, Run and then type in msconfig and it will bring up this window. And what we are going to be looking at is a start up tab and the services tab. And what you want to do if you have not done this before is go through all of these and which ones you want to start with your computer and which are the ones you do not.
If you have a really slow computer startup time, it is probably due to what all is located in these two tabs. But I am just going to go through delete everything that I do not want to start up with my computer and if I have a question about one, so it is a T and 2.1 whatever it is, a good website to go to, to find out what it is, is called processlibrary.com.
So, I am just going to type what I have found into the search criteria and click Find and hopefully it will bring it up which it did here and it will tell you whether it is harmful to your computer or not and it will give you a description of what it is.
Another good website aside from Process Library, I have got a couple listed at the comments but another good one is sysinfo.org where you can also search or it will just lay everything out in a list. You can see there are thousands of them.
But that is a good way to find out what everything is or what it is doing there. If for some reason, you cannot find it like this one for instance, if you could not find it in Process Library, just do a regular Google search for it. And as you can see, this one that I have listed that I had starting up with my computer, it says that this is potentially Spyware or Malware and it should not be running so it is a good thing that I did a search for that because this just need to be starting up with my computer.
And that is what you do not want to find but that is how you want to go to through this to make sure there is nothing like that starting up with your computer. And that was under the services tab. But whenever you are through, just click Apply and then click Ok and it should prompt you to restart your computer.
So just go ahead and click Restart and whenever your computer boots backup, you should see this dialog box, just check the boxes, it says “Do not show this again,” and click Ok. All right, that is it for this tutorial and Morgan at tinkernut.com.
