Male: Have you heard of a trick that is called the Find the Lady? Have you seen that sort thing before?
Female: Yes.
Male: Would you be interested in playing that game with me right now?
Female: Yes.
Male: Especially if money was involved?
Female: Yes.
Male: I am going to show you the three cards, I will risk my ten pounds but if you get it wrong you got to get me a free drink, is that okay?
Female: Yes.
Male: You got three cards, you got to remember whether red queen is. I am going to put this down and in a second, I am going to mix them up as well okay? Put the ten pounds on whichever one you think is the red queen. Oh, 50/50 chance right okay, now I am worried.
Female: Yes.
Male; Ah, turn it over. Oh, I guess that is mine then, thank you very much.
Okay, this is the explanation for Find the Lady, you are going to use a regular set of cards. As well this gimmick card, this is the gimmick set of cards, this three here. Now, if I spread these cards in my hand, I spread the top card and the bottom cards, you can see that queen but that is not the queen, that is a gimmick card, it is actually only half a card and I will show you how to make this very, very easy indeed.
All you do is take another queen of hearts and cut straight through the center of the card, you then take a piece of scotch tape, put in those cards together in this position and putting the tape on there and it is as simple as that you got your hinge card. That joker which is going to be the center card is positioned right in the center of the hinge card.
The other joker is put on top and the other joker is put on the bottom and the paper clip is put in such a position that I always remember that the joker is faced up. The gimmick set of cards goes into your right hand, jacket pocket. The 20-pound note goes into your left hand jacket pocket. Now, you need that 20 pound there because it is going to be the motivation to reach into your pocket in a few seconds time and when you do this you clearly show the cards front and back and if they want, they can have a quick look at them but do not make a big thing out of this.
You then put the paper clip back on in exactly the same way as they are with the gimmick cards. You then reach into your pocket to get the 20 pound note, do not make a move of this, do not worry. But literally, as you go in with your right hand, you are going to switch the cards in the side of your jacket pocket but you do not look at this hand, you look at the hand that is going to the 20 pound note.
So as you go inside, you switch the cards but really all the focus are misdirection is put on the 20 pound note that goes down just for a few seconds and from the position of the paper clip, like I said before and the way the writing is up I know that the gimmick is on this side. In this position, you can remove the paper clip, you do not put the paper clip away just yet, and you are going to need to put it on the table.
You then pull back the top card and pull back the bottom card. The whole thing is then turned over and with the gimmick on this side, it is a rather strange dealing position but you hold the cards like so. When you bring out the first card, which was the bottom joker, obviously nothing happens. But when you take out the next card, they obviously think this is the queen remember, but really it is a joker and that joker comes right out of the center of the gimmick and the gimmick stays behind in my hand, so it is literally there.
Casually now, you reach over and very quickly, you put the paper clip away in your pocket, but that is a great reason to go to your pocket and get rid of the gimmick. So you move the cards around like so and they are obviously going to be trying to keep track of which card they think is the queen of hearts. You will then ask them to put the 20 pound note down on which card they think is the queen of hearts, so let us say they put it down on the center card.
You then turn over one of the other cards and obviously, it is going to be a joker but at this point, they start to think they got a chance, it is a 50/50 chance, and they have won the 20-pound note of here. You turn over another card and then I really play with them at this point if I am ready to sort of give it to them like this and I say you know I did say, if it has got the queen under there you can keep the 20 pounds.
They turn it over and they need to smile and they say, “Well, I am afraid that is obviously mine then you put your 20 pound notes away. The great thing is they can examine the cards, you left them clean as nothing funny about this cards. Have fun with Find the Lady.
