Arthur St. Antoine: Hi, I am Arthur St. Antoine with Motor Trend magazine and we are here on California's spectacular Highway 1 with an equally spectacular automobile, the new Callaway C16 Speedster. The only one of its kind so far and I am here with the car's creator Reeves Callaway. Reeves tell us about this amazing new car of yours.
Reeves Callaway: Certainly, this was the debut of C16 Speedster at Pebble Beach this weekend and you and I are driving the second mile that has ever been put on the car. But in general, 700 horsepower, 210 mile an hour, no windshield, encapsulated helmets. This is a demonstration of everything that we do for not only the C16s but quite for the Corvettes in general. So, every aspect of the car whether it is the power or the suspension, the wheels, the tires and brakes has been addressed in some sort of cool way.
Arthur St. Antoine: One of the coolest features of the C16 Speedster as you notice it has no windscreen on it. So it has these integrated helmets. You've always got them with you; they are custom made for the owners. Reeves let's show them how these work. You just open up the compartment. These are the latest Formula 1, very rare light weight helmets. You just pop them on, then you are driving in the most exquisite style you can imagine.
Corvettes are just awesome; we are driving Callaway's brand new C16 Speedster down Highway 1. These are literally the first miles ever put on this car. We are the only people who have been lucky not to get behind the wheel. This was one of the stars of the Pebble Beach Concours D'elegance when Reeves unveiled it Saturday night. 700 horsepower, supercharged 6.2 Liter V8 engine, stunning body work, huge carbon ceramic brakes. This car has already been sold to a lucky owner for staggering $305,000.
But, for that you get a very unique and individualized car. Each one is made to the customer's exact specifications. These custom stands and helmets, colors, details inside and of course all this incredible power and performance. Reeves I just had a great time driving your C16 Speedster up and down Highway 1. It is absolutely striking to look at too. I got thumbs up from drivers in Gallardo and Ferraris. Tell me about how this car came about design wise?
Reeves Callaway: Well, I think you are right. It does cut across all lines and I think it is all at the feet of our great designer Paul Deutschman; 20 years worth of designing for Callaway. This is the third Speedster that we have done and there is some nice DNA, there is some lineage when you look at the car and you can say, wow that's a Callaway Corvette.
