I hate to break this to you, but your chloric needs during the first trimester are pretty much the same as before you became pregnant. And you thought pregnancy was your ticket to indulgence.
If you have normal weight, the target weight gain during this trimester is 2 to 5 pounds. Personally, I think the weight you gain goes straight to your boobs.
I went from being a normal chested woman to one who could readily make it on to bay watch. During these months, some women do not gain any weight and some loss weight due to nausea and vomiting then there are those vast who exceed the 5 pounds. I gain 7 pounds in the first trimester, but kept my total weight gain to 31. Now, I also got a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise usually more at least six days a week.
I am convinced that this help my delivery short labor and minimal weight gain in the third trimester. You are what you eat and so as your baby. So to promote optimum growth and development as well as to favorable sensitizes palate to a variety of nutritious flavors, calories should come from whole foods, fruits, grains, vegetables, nuts, beans, and the like.
Besides being healthier for you and baby, unprocessed foods are usually less calorie dense, nuts are excluded then ice cream, cake and hot fudge Sundays. In other words, you can eat more food for fewer calories because gravity is going to be tagging in both you and your baby. The goal is to keep the growth of you in check. Calories and excess of what you and your baby need goes straight to your butt, tights and waist.
Well the belly shrinks considerably right after birth, the booty does not.
