Audra Lowe: If you want to lose weight but you hate to go into the gym, a lot of people do. Don’t worry because there are a few solutions out there. Michelle Madhok is here. She’s the founder of shefinds.com and Michelle has got some great products to help you get fit without hiring a trainer or hitting the gym. Good combination there and we like that.
Michelle Madhok: Exactly.
Audra Lowe: Welcome back. Good to see you.
Michelle Madhok: Let me tell you, I hate to work out so I want to get a work out gear that helps me work out when I’m not really even thinking about working out. One of the first things you can do is everybody can walk. We can all walk and we can track how much we’re walking and maybe it’s that cool. So one of the coolest things that everybody don’t know is the new iPod Nanos, a pedometer in them. A pedometer tracks how much you walk, how much you’re burning and how many steps and you can set goals.
Audra Lowe: So you walk into the studio and you track your steps today, right?
Michelle Madhok: Look, 1600 step already.
Audra Lowe: You’re jamming girl.
Michelle Madhok: I love it. And you know it’s a great way to kind of working like a game with yourself, you can set a goal you know. It’s a great way to like fit in the working out.
Audra Lowe: And I like it because it’s not like an extra piece of equipment that you’re going to be hooking under your hip or whatever.
Michelle Madhok: Right. So if you don’t want to go the iPod way, there’s a bunch of other pedometer and kind of tracking options. You can get a basic pedometer for like $23.00. It just measures how much you walk. You can go to the next step to like a puller which is a watch kind of a thing which tracks—it becomes cuter and track your calorie and like your hear rate and all of that stuff and most intricate is one of this go anywhere. You can get an arm band or display. This one has a little clip that you can clip on.
Audra Lowe: This calculate your calories too, right?
Michelle Madhok: They calculate your calories; they calculate even how well you sleep. So you can wear it all day and find out—never taken off and know how much you’re burning all day long.
Audra Lowe: Really? Like how well you’re sleeping or how bad.
Michelle Madhok: Both. How much you’re burning when you’re sleeping that tracks how much you roll around like in your sleep like it will know you better than you know yourself. That might be a little scary too. Okay, the next one that we have over is the iPosture.
Audra Lowe: iPosture. I need this.
Michelle Madhok: Yes. I like the benefits of yoga without having to go to yoga.
Audra Lowe: Right.
Michelle Madhok: So I want to be able to standup straight. So I hook this little iPosture on me. I set it. This is me standing up straight and if I bend over, it goes off and gives me a little buzz.
Audra Lowe: Yeah, I can feel it. It was a little vibration.
Michelle Madhok: Yes.
Audra Lowe: Mine would be going off all the time. I have rounded shoulders.
Michelle Madhok: It just reminds you sit up straight like your mother would.
Audra Lowe: Oh gosh, I will be getting much all the time. But that’s the smart move to make though because it reminds you to stand straight up.
Michelle Madhok: Exactly.
Audra Lowe: Alright, next. What do we have here?
Michelle Madhok: So the next one is another yoga. This is called hyp-yoga. It’s hypnosis plus yoga. So basically it could take you to do some slow yoga and at the same time you can get an MP3 or a disc and it helps you think about I will lose weight. I will not eat that.
Audra Lowe: In a nonstressful way, right?
Michelle Madhok: Yes. And then it gets into your brain and so you don’t even have to work that hard your brain takes over.
Audra Lowe: Okay, another way, you don’t have to work too hard putting on some shoes. Ladies love shoes and we love this because they’re comfortable but what’s so different about this particular boots.
Michelle Madhok: So these are the feet flap and what they are is they have a wobble board so they’re a little bit off balance, see what they can when you walk, they kind of keep yourself centered which makes your stomach flatter, your core, makes your butt work, makes your legs work so you’re working out, looking fashionable and you don’t have to be wearing running shoes.
Audra Lowe: As long as you’re not going all the way back like this, you’re good to go. Alright and the next – are these called bangles.
Michelle Madhok: These are bangles. You see them, they look like bracelets. When you put them on, they’re actually one and a half pound of weights. So you’re walking around wearing your bracelets, you feel like stocking up your arm if you want to add them. They also have ankle ones but the idea is that it doesn’t look like you’re in the gym.
Audra Lowe: That is such a cute idea. I love that. Different colors they come in and different styles.
Michelle Madhok: Different styles, different colors and match them to your outfit.
Audra Lowe: I got you. And then last but not the least. Okay, Michelle and I were talking earlier and you know you’re putting ice cream in the bowl, fruits in the bowl whatever you know you’re not suppose to be eating but this keeps you accountable because of measures. I don’t know if you guys can see this.
Michelle Madhok: So I’m very lazy about dieting and you’re suppose to measure everything and I’m like, I don’t want to get out the measuring cup of like. So these bowls are brilliant because they have the measuring cup built in.
Audra Lowe: So you can see the little lines there—
Michelle Madhok: It’s like instead of guessing. I'm having a quarter cup of ice cream. You will know you’re having a quarter cup of ice cream. You can mash it down.
Audra Lowe: I’ll be backing it all the way in there but as long as you don’t get off the line, you’re good to go.
Michelle Madhok: Right. So that’s great. They come in two sizes. It’s a dishwasher safe. It’s a great you know product.
Audra Lowe: Perfect. Thank you so much Michelle. I think I’m going to take all the things that you brought today. Good to see you again. Alright, while you guys are reinventing your fitness routine, why not transform that furniture you got at the house. The editors at Midwest living gave us a few pointers to give our furniture face lift.
Sara Reimer: Adding decorative nail heads to a wood furniture piece. Now we actually took a buffet and painted it in a high glass white finish and then instead of taking real nail heads which can be difficult to drill and hammer into a wood piece, you can actually find a foe alternative. There are actually silver nail head stickers that you can purchase at scrap booking store that are three dimensional and you can you know glue those on to a wood piece or you can take a wood plugs from a craft store and you can spray paint those silver and glue those on. And they have the same look as you know shiny decorative nail heads.
Audra Lowe: The pros also suggest using applique or stencils to enhance your room as well or go to the extra mile with the two tone finish or mimicking an exaggerated wood grain. For step on how to do any of these tricks, check out Midwest Living magazine which is on store shelves.
