Some folks got hard wood flooring over top of some floors, some have vinal over top some floor, some have carpet over top of sub floor, some have finish ceilings down in the basement underneath the main floor level. Well, first what causes the problem? The joist when they install originally are green wet when they dry out they shrink away. Showing you with the nail here, when the plywood shrinks away from the joist you get that squeaking sound when you walk across it. Okay we are now up stairs, we will take the register a cap away, I have previously drill a hole in the side of the galvanize boot, which I going to put a nail into the hole and push it through until runs in to the side of the joist. Keeping my four fingers and thumb nice and tight against the nail, pull the nail out that the exact measurement way from the boot that the joist are located. Now, there you have there I tied against the side of the carpet, tilt the nail up push into under pad, the nail stay upright until you take a measurement.
Take the measurement from the wall out, that is 59 inches, now it is 59 inches to the side the joist another 3 quarters of inch will be center of the joist because your joist are inch in half wide. Now I will put a piece of the tape right the side of the nail that way I’ll be able to put my screw nail down through the sub floor and into the joist to tighten it right at the edge of the tape. Now this is a special screw that we are going to use along with an accessory, which is called squeak removing device. Now, the screw goes down through the chuck like so and inside the chuck there a stop, which this screw a point for this screw nail will stop at that point. There is an actual stop point, which only allows that screw to go so deep. And it is down through, pull out away as you can see now the screw has not went directly into the carpet but it has stayed up high enough were know I can use the screw removing device on the accessory. Now screw removing device screw head simply slide it over move it back and fourth till you break it off pulling it out. Taking the squeaks away, look that even mark in the carpet, there was the squeak was gone nothing more.
