Jason: Welcome to the McInTECH show. Today, we have a guest with us. His name is Dano at DanoLive.com. And we also have Cb14 and AKAFurios, our COO. And today, we’re going to be talking about two new things that are out in the internet that is Flock and Pownce.
AKAFurios: Web browsers.
Jason: Yeas and I believe that the Flock is—
AKAFurios: They are social web browser.
Jason: Yeah, I believe that Flock is also based of Firefox and it is a social browser and it allows you to like access things such as Facebook and MySpace. And well basically Dano Live and AKAFurios could tell you more about that.
AKAFurios: Well, if you have like—if you want to like access for Twitter, Facebook, whatever easily or you want to like right into your blog without going to the website, you could use Flock. And I’m obsessed with it.
Dano: It is rather nice. I like about it, it’s based of, of Firefox and I love Firefox because that’s good for web browser. Yeah, it works on all platforms, that type of thing so it does well. I’ve actually found some interesting about fox today. It’s actually a known issue with Firefox is that it has kind of a memory leak if you watch your memory usage when you open up Firefox. And Flock actually fixes a lot of those problems and uses less memory than Firefox does so that’s kind of cool.
Jason: Oh, I didn’t know that. I would have thought it would have been used because that’s the one issue with Firefox.
Dano: Yeah it is, but you know the main reason for Flock is it integrates like your social networks like Facebook and MySpace, the popular ones and some not so well-known ones like Twitter. Twitter is fairly well-known but its still has just quite cut on yet. But I use them. Another famous one that I really enjoy is Flickr, flickr.com, flickr without the E at the end. And you can upload the photos to that site and Flock integrates that with it actually pops up a window and you have a space to drag your photos from your computer into your browser. Save them as a batch file, meaning you can make them all the same and upload it directly from the web browser instead of having it to type in Flock at Flickr.com and get this—and instead of blogging in, you can just do it directly from the web browser which is really cool.
AKAFurios: Yeah, that’s cool. And you also for a blogging, I use it for blogging purposes too like you can update your blog so.
Dano: What blog service do you get through AKA?
AKAFurios: WordPress.
Dano: WordPress and then does it—it does it quite nicely any equation there.
AKAFurios: No, I have a WordPress in one of my servers and hosted on locker now and I use WordPress for a few years now I think, one or two years.
Dano: This Flock did a good job just like logging in and post them, something like that.
AKAFurios: Yeah, it’s great. I do it mostly at school if I have free time. My manager said something about it when I told them about the home memory usage thing which you know Jason you are quite interested in that and that’s kind of cool.
Jason: Cb14 seems to point that it has a lot of memory.
Female: Yeah the Firefox and so on uses a non Godly amount of RAM.
Dano: Yes it does. I found that Skype does the same thing too.
Jason: Oh yeah.
Dano: But that’s near to hear that they—of Flock. Come on guys get on top.
Jason: Now, what about this new Pownce thing that—
Dano: Yeah, that’s fine but have you heard of Digg, digg.com.
Female: Oh yeah, I’ve heard of dig.
AKAFurios: Yes, I’ve heard of it.
Dano: Yeah, well the co- founder Kevin Rose formally of Tech TV here in the States of Technology channel started digg.com. He also started with a couple of other people, pownce.com and that’s not with a U that’s actually p-o-w-n-c-e.com. That’s actually, invite all new right now but if you need an invite Danoallanheart@gmail.com send me an email.
AKAFurios: Also that’s me Akafurios@Akafurios.McInTEC.net
Dano: There you go. It’s actually like email, yeah I know. We’re going to get spam AKA. And it’s kind of like Twitter to where you can like update your status and what not but you can also send files and I’ve seen a lot of people do like music files, they like “Hey, this song stuck in my head today and I thought I would share it with my friends.” And so you got like a friends list and what not like also from networks and that kind of thing.
AKAFurios: But if you pay a little bit you could get like a more storage for your files.
Dano: Yeah, I think it’s like 20 bucks a year. That and they just release this new thing to where you can actually design your Pownce page a little nicer like choose different colors for 20 bucks—
AKAFurios: You have a default one, it’s like really dark.
Dano: Yeah. They’re kind of cool though. Actually a guy from—I was originally based in Toronto Canada which we know we have some Canadians on the line here. What’s his name? Daniel Berkal who also designs digg.com, he did design it and to me that was a great work and he’s a Canadian.
Jason: Well, that sounds interesting so do you have anymore to add?
Dano: I encourage everybody to come both of them but I especially like out of the two, Flock because it just connects me to all my friends and that type of thing.
AKAFurios: I can’t wait until they imbed use scream on it so you can access to the use screamer without problem, without going to the website.
Dano: That’s right.
AKAFurios: That’s awesome.
Dano: It would be very cool. Now, the integration of work, Pownce yes has yet to come but UStream is nice. I mean I use UStream a lot—
Yeah I know. You’re going to get that in somewhere. It keeps the show you know going busy.
AKAFurios: Well, there we have it Pownce and Flock. I encourage everybody to take a look at it. Go to Google and Google it or come to our chat room. We’re on a wild wide network Pownce Dano or Dano we’re going to go to Dano Live Chat room and Pownce McInTEC. We’ll bring you two hours. You can also stop at Dano’s website DanoLive.com, or McInTEC website at McInTEC.net. Thanks for watching the show everybody. Peace out!
