Hi I’m Cheryl Forberg prevention advisor and nutritionist for the Biggest Loser. A diet
including natural foods such as beans, whole grains and some soy foods will do more
than helping lose weight. These foods may also help your blood pressure and check
because of their high levels of glutamic acid. A recent study found that a 5% increase of
glutamic acid can help reduce blood pressure by up to 4 points to achieve this try eating
like a vegetarian ones a week.
For breakfast instead of bacon and eggs have cereal and a protein pack smoothie. For
lunch choose a black bean burger instead of beef and whenever possible choose barley,
Bulgur or whole grains over white rice. When cutting back on meat, be sure you get
enough protein. I like to have a protein rich smoothie for breakfast or as a snack. If you
have a sweet tooth you’ll love my delicious nutty chocolate shake.
First measure 1 cup of very cold fat free soy or almond milk into the jar of a blender or
bowl of a food processor, then add 1/3 cup of soft silken tofu. Then add one very ripe
peeled and frozen banana and 1-1/2 tablespoons of natural cocoa powder and if you like
it extra sweet you can add a teaspoon of agave nectar. Then add a ½ teaspoon of pure
vanilla extract and 4 ice cubes combine all ingredients and serve immediately.
