Efficient, Effective Coaching Methods and Strategies
Hi and welcome to Football Done Right an interactive coaching website done for coaches
by coaches. My name is Coach Matt Stern and today we’re going escape techniques
emphasizing the club, the swat, the trap, and the forklift. Come over here players. Let’s
start with two players standing across from each other across the line back up, on the line.
One player is going to start off with his hands out, first move we’re going to show is the
club.
Club, player is going to come across his body with his arm clubbing both hands away
from the blocker. Set, go! [Players demonstrating] Good! Decreasing his surface area
creating space for him to flip his hips throwing his rib and settling him out of the gap, for
the sake of the drill player is going to reset with his hands out and the next player is going
to throw a club across his body. Set go! [Players demonstrating] Good a club across his
body again stepping outside decreasing his surface area creating space from the flip of his
hips and settling into the gap. For the sake of the drill he’s going to reset, set, club, reset.
Set, club, reset. Set, club, good!
The next drill on the series that we’re going to show is a Swat. Swat is essentially a
double club. We’re going to start off with his inside hand in between both of the blockers
hand, the outside hand on the outside essentially throwing two clubs and swatting his
hands away. One player is going to start off with his hands out. Next player is going to
swat. Set, swat and settle up through the gap. Reset, that player is going to have his hands
out. Player one is going to swat. Set, swat, step outside and settle through the gap. Flip
his hips and settle up through the gap. Good, for the sake of the drill we’re going to go
rapid succession. Players are going to switch hands throwing hands at each other. Set,
swat, good! Reset, set, swat. Set, swat, reset, set, swat.
Next drill on the series is called a forklift. Forklift is the inside power rush move done at
either the three technique or one the technique. Just take advantage of the offensive
player’s leverage. Player is going to come out of their stance taking their hands and
aiming for inside the elbows coming up underneath the elbows. Knocking that elbows up
and punching the other player in the chest. Player is going to start with both hands out;
defensive player is going to come up underneath his elbows lifting up knocking his hands
off the defensive player and punching him in the chest. Set, go! Good. Reset, set, forklift!
Set, go! Set, go! Again this is the inside power rush move. Try to take advantage of the
offensive player’s leverage so we knock their hands up punch them in the chest hoping
that they are trying to jump us and then we can take advantage of them falling forward.
The next move in the series of escape techniques is called a trap. Trap we’re going to
repeat coming down on the offensive player’s hands and punch him in the chest. Player
one is going to start hands out and he is going to come, set, trap! Punch, good! Reset, set,
trap! Good, set, go! I want to emphasize players coming down hard with their hands
taking advantage of the offensive player’s movement forward. Set, go, hard punch. Set,
go! Hard, punch. Good. Natural body progressions out of these two moves for the forklift
is going to be a rip. You’re knocking your hands out stepping through the gap ripping.
Reset, forklift, rip, good! And the natural body progression for the trap is going to be a
swim. So we’re going to come down, our momentum is going to carry us over with a
sweep. Set, trap! Swim, good! Set, trap, swim!
To incorporate movement in this drill I’m going to throw the blockers signifying hands
coming out them, their going to throw their club, their going to reset on the line and come
back. Set, go! Set, go! Next player set go! Set, go! Good! Now we’re going to transition
into the swatter, here we go set swat. Set! Next player set, go! Set, go! Now we’re
transitioning to the forklift. Set, go! Set, go! Next player, set, go! Set, go! Now we’re
going to transition into the trap. Set, go! Set, go! Next player, set, go! Set, go!
