Hi this is John Sanchez also known as WebDev master just coming to give you a brief recording of some web developer tools and I guess anybody can use this tools I included them in my first tutorial but it was so long, I thought it would be good to break them out. It’s just two really simple utilities that I use a lot that can help you find out the color of a particular graphical element and also find out the medicines of the graphical element. So I’m going to switch over here and one of the programs is called, the name of the program is called calipers and if you Google on calipers you’ll be able to find it and what it does is it brings up this little bar here and you can see, you can just drag your bar over and it will show you the wave of your graphical element. So from here to here, the width of the graphical element is 382 pixels. If I wanted to change it from going from horizontal to vertical I just click on little v and looks that I wanted to find the width of this bar here I just drag my calipers to the width of the bar and I can see now that the width is 50Qpixels. This is an invaluable tool if you try to like when I was trying to use my Ustream banner I wasn’t sure how big I needed to how long me to make my banner so I use this to figure out how my banner needed to be by sizing it to the Ustream window and it was very, very helpful.
The other little tool that I use quite a little bit is called pixie. And if Google pixie it’s just a simple utility that will allow you to move your mouse over a particular graphical element and it changes the color and lets you know what the color is. So I want to try to size this a little bit better here so you can see, I’m going to move it over here with that log. Okay so as I move my mouse around you see it’s changing the color up of the pixy window and I click on that red area and you can see that it shows me the HTML values which is 902817 the RGB values and the CMYK values and when you’re doing HTML in style sheets you’ll use the HTML values which is the pair 902817. Great little tool if you want to steal a color from somebody else’s website and you’re not sure exactly what it is. This is a handy little tool that you can use. It also has some quickies so if I do control alt C it’ll copy the HTML values into the clip boards and I could paste them into my HTML letter editor which is just really, really handy. I use this tool every day, it is just a great tool and the best part is it’s free.
So if you want to find out some dimensions of a particular graph or you want to find out colors of a particular graphic, I recommend using calipers and pixie, go to Google and search for them and you’ll find them and I think you’ll really, really like them. So give them a try and you can always send me an email and let me know what you think if you have any issues with them. My email address is webdevmaster@gmail.com this is John Sanchez we’ll see you all next time we’ll see you later.
