Hello, everyone and thank you for tuning in the Inside Geek Canada. My name is Evan Thies and today is our website feature. My question to you today is, do you run a Macintosh based website? Now, by this I mean, do you have a Mac Podcast, a Mac blog where you discus maybe news, tips or tricks. Many Macintosh related iPhone, Ipods, stuff like that and my question really is how do you promote this website related to Mac.
Well, today I am going to talk about a website called the Macintosh advertising network. Now, this is a completely free and yes, I am saying free again. I know you are saying, “Evan, that is impossible.” There is no free advertising in the internet anymore it is all, no paper click or paper month or something like that well in fact this one is free. Now there is a bit of a trade off you do have to in fact display some banners on your website but I mean you are getting free advertising that is kind of an exchange program that sorts but it does offer some unique features that all these advertising networks do not really offer. So, I am just going to jump on the computer here and demo some of the features.
Okay, so right now we are on the Macintosh advertising network, the main page, which is located at jonbrown.org/ads. That is jonbrown.org/ads and then I will get you hearing, basically, here this is the main signing page. And basically the great thing about the Mac advertising network as I said is it is completely free and as it says here your trade up basically is you display the banner on the page and what it does is it is based on a rotation basis. So, every 10 seconds or show it flips to a different ad, a different ad. And what happen is, for every 100 times you run this adds on your website which does not take that many times they get 100 impressions depending on popular sites.
Your website is run 10,000 times throughout the rest of the network because a bunch of different people will be running this code on their websites and your website once will be popped up there it will keep track of this. So every 100 times this piece of code is run on your website in displaying an add it will basically give you 10,000 equivalent for all of the different times your banner is going to be seen. Now, of course that does not mean it is going to guarantee clicks but that does mean your brand will be seen in front of a lot more people, which is great. So, I am just going to go and go through the basic site here. So if you first go to add your site and obviously for me I am not going to add a new site, we actually do not have another one but you can actually add this many websites and blogs as you want too. So, I have to login here, you have to first make an account which is obviously pretty simple, you just go to the signup button and as simple as that.
And here is where I can add my new sites so you just add your URL, the title of your site, basic description and the category which try to be as accurate as possible of course and then your banner graphic which is you know set size 571 by 59 or 57. They kind of you know leader board form factor and it works quite well. If I go up to view and edit my site this is where I have my site that is in it right now Inside Geek Canada site. And here it shows me the number of shows that I have had based on the network. The number of clicks I have had and my site code which I click on this and it will actually generate for me the code that should be displaying so the site knows basically who to track. So you can simply copy this job descript code, I change mine slightly to be more standard complying but this code will work fine and then you just display it there and the banners will start displaying. If it modify your info, basically means I can just change the information now I have personally on this thing it is not a big deal. And help actually tells you just the code again but it tells you how to input your ID on your own. So if you do n
