French Women Don't Get Fat
Better
Rhiannon: Mireille Guilliano is the international bestselling author of French Women
Don’t Get Fat. In fact the book was so popular that actors Hillary Swank’s
production company bought the film’s rights and Mireille is back with her
long awaited cookbook the French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook.
Welcome to the show Mireille.
Mireille Guilliano: (Author: French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook) Thank you for
having me.
Rhiannon: We’re so excited to have you. So tell me why do you think what is the
secret. Why do French women do not get fat?
Mireille: Well there are many secrets but actually it’s common sense, they eat three
meals a day, I call it my holy trinity. Three meals a day and what people
don’t understand that in every meal you have to have the three carbs,
proteins and fats and bread is actually good for you. There are plenty of
good bread and so as chocolate.
Rhiannon: So do I, so French women actually eat chocolate and drink wine.
Mireille: All of the above and much more. They eat everything. But in small
portions and they don’t snack in between and of course they move around
and I drink a lot of water.
Rhiannon: A lot of water well that’s good to know. So what are we doing wrong.
Mireille: Well when you say the statistics like 80% of Americans last month bought
prepared food that’s not good or 40 plus % of kids are already obese.
Rhiannon: It can be a lot quicker and easier to buy the prepared food but French don’t
do that.
Mireille: No, they like to cook fresh food, seasonal food and you know, you don’t
have strawberry in January because they don’t taste any good and it’s not
very difficult to make a meal. I’m not asking for everyday but you know
especially when you have young children.
Rhiannon: Now French cooking can be very intimidating.
Mireille: Yes.
Rhiannon: Are these recipes in your book, can the average women can really make
them?
Mireille: Absolutely and I studied with French Woman Don’t Get Fat Cookbook
only had 50 recipes and my readers especially young readers who came
from others, feminist movement. It was to poo poo to cook and stay home
and they grew up on TV dinner and they couldn’t even boil an egg and
granted French cooking can be intimidated but in all my books I have
recipes guaranteed. They are easy, affordable, quick, delicious and they
have only a few ingredients because you don’t need you know 20 things to
put in a dish. You can go to a restaurant for that.
Rhiannon: So which are your favorite recipes out of the book?
Mireille: So many but in this one like in my first book you know I was known for
the magical leek broth. I have a magical breakfast her that everybody
should do and no excuse because it’s very, very quick to make but you
have that and it will transform the way you feel.
Rhiannon: A magical breakfast alright thank you so much Mireille we will definitely
take some tips from this cookbook. You can get it, it is available now
we’ll be right back.
