Danita Blackwood: Travis Mitchell’s business is going to the dogs, cats and even the occasional snake or bird. Everyday Mitchell cares for pets is the founder and owner business Pet Keepers. It may look like a walk in the park, but Mitchell’s enterprise is serious business for animal owners looking good care for their pets.
Travis Mitchell: The client at work and they want yet to decide a routine to be broken up, so when they come home the dogs won’t be so rambunctious.
Danita Blackwood: Mitchell watched his pets sitting and care business after being concerned about leaving his pet on vacation.
Travis Mitchell: It came to me one day, as I was walking my own dog and I decided I was going to put him on the kennel because I need to go out of town. When I returned to pick my own dog up, he was lethargic he has lost weight.
Danita Blackwood: Mitchell vowed not to leave his dog in a kennel again and began to think about launching a pet sitting and care company. Animals have always played a big role in Mitchell’s life from childhood pets to variety of animal related jobs.
Travis Mitchell: I’m a former zookeeper from the St Louis zoo open house and I work at Rosto and Forina and I worked at Washington University School of Medicine and I also work for Monsanto. All of these jobs were pertaining to animal technology, internal and external.
Danita Blackwood: Mitchell launched Pet Keepers as a part time enterprise.
Travis Mitchell: Good boy Joey.
Danita Blackwood: And now it’s a full time job for him and employees as well. He works in his community to help pets and their owners on several fronts. This busy entrepreneur launched a local pet magazine and a frequent speaker at community groups.
Travis Mitchell: That inspires me that I can talk or perhaps give tips on how to be a responsible pet owner.
Danita Blackwood: Mitchell has some tips for others who might be considering launching a part time business, including finding enterprise that put yours strong points and skills at the forefront. It was an easy decision for Mitchell who has an extensive animal care background. Also, Mitchell’s part time venture did not compete with his full time job but before he launched Pet Keepers. Mitchell did his research and determine there is a market for resources. He works hard to keep his company and friendly pet owners with a pet magazine, a website and other marketing efforts.
