Mike Agerbo: Well I think the important thing in business is knowing how to get to where you want to go on time without getting lost.
Lindsay Smith: That’s so true and if you remember back in the old school days we just use paper maps in order around or a little bit more recently we used to go on the Google Maps, download the directions on how to get to where you want to go and you have to have your copilot in the car actually helping you navigate through. Well, those days are gone.
Most of us had adapted GPS systems now and often separate devices but Smartphones are now becoming more equipped with them. This Blackberry actually we’ve downloaded a service called TELUS Navigator to it. It was really easy. All we have to do is go into TELUS applications, select the download feature and it automatically installs on to the phone. The cost is pretty reasonable and then there we have it an actual GPS system built right into the Smartphone. This allows us to both enter destinations, to travel and get around to our meetings as well as points of interest.
Mike Agerbo: I found this kind of handy because I used a GPS a lot when I am traveling but I always find in a lot a cases, I know that sounds damn, I forget the GPS or I forget to charge the GPS or the charging cable. Now it is all on one device so I do not have to worry about carrying all these different devices with me.
Lindsay Smith: That is a really handy feature. So let us demo this. I am going to click on the navigator icon there and it is going to load the application and once where in there are two different things that we can do. One is we can go in and enter the address for where we want to go. It will actually walk us through step by step or we can find the point of interest which I do not know craving a little bit coffee. I'm getting my caffeine shakes.
Mike Agerbo: So while are you drinking coffee that means you are talking less.
Lindsay Smith: Yeah, potentially but actually maybe not. Okay so let us try out the navigation feature first. We’ve got to find the destination planet trip homework. Let’s go and then find the destination. I am going to choose the third option here in going to address. This is where I can actually type in the address that I want go too so it could be the place of the meeting. More excitingly let’s go in actually find a coffee shop here. What do you think?
Mike Agerbo: I think so. You know what’s kind of neat is they actually have over a million points of interest in the TELUS Navigator and they’re updating that regularly too.
Lindsay Smith: Yeah! Actually they updated on the quarterly basis both with what is going on in terms of new updates to maps as well as the point of interest. So you will always know that you are getting pretty recent information. So in this case on a Localize Search, I think let’s go in and find the Starbucks here. So I am just going to type that in and click Find and what is going to do is going to bring out the ten closest Starbucks locations which is great.
Mike Agerbo: Because you can never have too many Starbucks.
Lindsay Smith: You can’t! You are going in, you will find your ten closest ones. And as you can see it actually brings upon the screen here. Not only from the Starbucks, it gives you the address and your phone numbers so it is kind of acting as the 411 a replacement all in one.
Mike Agerbo: So that is actually save your money. So eventhough the navigator feature is ten dollars a month you can imagine how much money you might save for one charges.
Lindsay Smith: That is so true. So let’s just give this a shot here. As you can see, once this button map, I bought up the screen of the address. Now we are going to go in and click the button here and look at the map feature. So it is going to locate where we are and then it is going to launched the GPS System and tell us how to find that cup of coffee.
Mike Agerbo: Love it! We should give this a go.
Lindsay Smith: I think we should very much. Put on our seatbelts, on the way we go.
Mike Agerbo: What else I found interesting is that they also have real time traffic information for the major cities like Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
Lindsay Smith: Which is quite a handy because I can tell you how many times you have been stocked with the GPS system and its calculating the fastest route but I does not factor in the traffic. Now as you can see here as we are approaching our destination a Starex has appeared at the top. It’s caught the address scrawling along there and it’s telling me at I am point three kilometers away and then actually on Water Street now. I am going to arrive there in less than a minute. So if you are going along and you are not sure when you should be stopping or turning, you can press the talk button at anytime, “Your destination is on the right.” And it will tell you what is coming up next.
Mike Agerbo: What I like about this is having it all in one device. So you do not have to carry all these different devices with you. It is a Smartphone and that is what you wanted to do. You want it to be everything for you. Keeping it connected and also getting it to where you need to go. Hey, there it is.
Lindsay Smith: Thank you Navigator for getting us there.
