Garage Storage Tips
Danny Lipford: Everybody uses our garage for storage, but the challenge is storing things in your garage without taking up all the room for the cars. Well here’s one idea to install wood like this on the wall, so that you can hang your tools up of out of the way, just like they’ve done with their bar clamps up here and their bicycles hanging from the ceiling. Now, Joe has had another storage idea.
Joe: In this case Danny we’re going to take advantage of the open framing on the back wall of this garage which is only about 3 ½ inches deep, but it’s perfect for storing large narrow items like this pole pruner. Now you just can’t stand the pruner up because it will just top all over everytime you walk the passed it. So what I’ve done is I’ve screwed the 1x4 to the front edge of one of these studs to create this little swing up the gate.
Danny Lipford: Now why not just nail this up.
Joe: Now you couldn’t just nail it up with tall items, you wouldn’t be able lift them out because they want to put in the ceiling. So you need to have some way off swinging the gate out of the way. So you just put one screw with a nice large washer on this end and the other end I’m just flashing to this little clip out of a couple of one by twos just to hold it up. So if you can just hold that right there, these are couple of three inch dry wall screws and then all you need to do is swing up out of the way and put the item in there. This is great for our any pipes or wooden dowel rods.
Danny Lipford: That‘s perfect, and with an open wall garage like this, there’s a lot of space you can take advantage off.
