Our early spring prep work actually paid off. Utilizing our hoop houses, we were able to plant these first two beds two weeks before the last day of falls. Now, while most people are just beginning to plant their garden, I already have edible prodo.
I design this first bed as a companion planting bed. There is a lot of different things going that complement each other. I got some sunflowers, some beautiful huge 10-foot tall sunflowers. I got some eggplants growing, two rows of eggplant. I got a whole row along this trellis of cucumbers; an assortment of basil and some marigolds. I got my corn and my beans. Now, I put my corn and my beans together because the corn stalk is going to act like the stick for my beans. So, the beans are going to be able to climb up the stalk as it grows.
Over here, I have an assortment of lettuces. And here, my first heirloom tomatoes. I have already staked them and pretty seen they will be as tall as me. In the front of this bed, I have just a huge amount of masculine salad and this big guy right here is my potato.
Since early spring, and planting these first two beds where some of the stuff is already edible, I staggered my planting fruitful and I have taken and planted two beds every two weeks, so that that allows me to have a rotating system of harvesting. So, there is once one bed is completely grazed on. I can then move to the next because by then, the next bed will be ready to be harvested.
