Now, what I want to do is leave all of my watermelon plants through. So as you know, watermelon is a vining crop. And, because we live in a city, we do not have a lot of space, but I still want to grow amazing watermelon. What I have done is put in this vertical support.
Basically, all I have to do is really just support it in a couple of different places. I like supporting it down low, and somewhere in the middle, and then the top really you can then start living in. What is going to happen is, these plants are going to just encircle the wire, and they are going to attach themselves to the frame. We would not really have to give it too much more support than this.
I am using these, what I call sandwich bag ties here. You can get them in a roll and you just have a little metal thing here that cuts them for you. I like using this, because you can pretty much pick your own size. They have pre-cut ties, and then you have to join more than one together to get the size that you want. These, you can cut them to the size that you want. I guess some of them, as I see where they are growing, and how they are growing. I am just either weeding it through, and like I said it will attach itself to the vertical support. And this one is a little bit longer, so it needs that extra little bit of support. So it can continue growing up.
I just have this last one that I am going simply train through the vertical support, and pretty much all of my watermelon plants are now supported on here, and it is now up to them to grow, and attach themselves. Look right there, there is already a little flower. So, pretty soon I will have some watermelon.
