Hi! I'm Moe Harris and today I’m at the locker room in Warrenton, Virginia. Today, we’re going over some basic flair bartending techniques that are going to hopefully have you a lot of fun behind the bar and make a lot of money behind the bar.
Now, we’ve already ice the glass up. We’ve already thrown a napkin down. We’ve pour it with flair. Now for the final presentation, the garnish. Now a lot of bartenders will just grab a garnish, placing it inside their drink or on the rim of the glass and that’s great, and it’s a beautiful thing, that’s what you got to do. Or you can do the same thing with a little bit of flair. I'm going to show two techniques better just a little bit different from what most bartenders do.
The first one, we’re going to need a prop and that prop is going to be a nice big shaker. Again if you have on top of your bar like this, that’s great because you’re on the position that you want to be in already. You’re going to grab it normally and remember now we’re in a backend, got them. All I’m going to do is take this thing, practice tossing behind your back a few times like this. Again, it’s going to fall during the practice time and that’s okay, that’s will practice time is for.
Once you get this, slow down okay. Essentially all I’m doing is tossing it over my back. Once I get that throw down, what I’m going to try to do is instead of catching to my hand, kind of scoop out of the area with the cup that I have right so it’s going to look like this. So I’ve scooped it out of the air. All I’m going to do is give it to my other hand. It’s going to look like this from the back, ready. I’ve scooped, I’m going to hand it over to this hand and finally, just place it in the drink.
Here’s the trick in its entirety, ready? Throw, scoop, hand off, garnish. Next, instead of doing it like that, another technique you can do is without using a prop I’ll throw the actual garnish into the drink itself. Again it starts off the same way throwing behind the back except now, instead of scooping it out of the air with any lock, it’s going to land right in the drink itself. Here we go.
Next, what we’re going to do is we’re going to taka all those tricks that we just did. Combine them together and show you how to make a couple of drinks with all those tricks that we did. Nothing crazy, nothing complicated but it’s going to be a thing of beauty.
