With rear-drive and plenty of power, coming from either a 2-liter turbo four-cylinder, or a 3.8-liter V6, Hyundai's Genesis Coupe stacks up well on paper.
However, we want to know how this car performed on the pavement. So, we had it to our test facility to find out, subjecting Genesis Coupe to a garage of toleration, braking and having tested.
Breaking and braking are important elements of any serious sports car's DNA, we decided to save those tests for later of the day and having little fun first.
So, we brought along two of the Hyundai's biggest rivals. Nissan's all-new 370Z and Ford's reworked Mustang GT for an impromptu quarter-mile drag race.
Will the Genesis Coupe prove to be the force to be reckoned with? Let's find out.
In the end, the Genesis didn't have enough grunt to take the drag race crown, finishing at the third place.
Genesis recorded a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds and finished the quarter-mile at 14.2 seconds at 99.5 miles/hr. At the second place was Ford's V8 powered Mustang GT.
Mustang GT recorded a 0-60 time of 5 seconds flat, and completed the quarter-mile in 13.5 seconds, at 104 miles per hour. Defeating the Mustang car from Motown and earning bragging rights as the drag race champ was Nissan's 370Z.
Z recorded a blazing 0-60 times at 4.7 seconds and finished the quarter-mile at 13.3 seconds at 107.1 miles/hr.
So, now let's see how the Genesis Coupe stacks up against the the Z and Mustang in having a braking test.
Stay tuned for our next video as we examine those results, as well as our driving impression to other groups.
