Jay Manuel: Hey I’m Jay with Style Her Famous. Keep watching as Hillary Duff’s makeup artist Joanna Schlip shows you how to get Hillary’s sexy smudged eye.
Joanna Schlip: First things first, I’m going to do a cream eye shadow on top. And this is just to bring out the eye a little bit and give it a little bit of dimension and it’s so easy to do, you would literally just put one dab on the eye and blend it out because you know you’re going to rock with smokey, you can’t just have the black liner, there’s going to be some sort of gradation color.
What I like to do is just add a little highlight on the brow bone and then I’m just going to set in with powder like this.
So now, we’re going to take the black coal liner which is what I love to use when I’m doing this smudged eye and this is your smudger right here. So when you get a pencil, you want to find with both and you’re just going to go along the lash lines as close as you can get and pull it out to where the banana is and the banana is, look straight in the mirror, see your crease right there? We call it the banana, so your crease naturally ends there, so you can pull all the way up, don’t be afraid if it’s not perfect because you don’t really want it perfect, you want it smudged.
Now, this is the trick I like to do because you’re a little bit more bang for your buck, look down, you pull up your eye and then you put the black liner inside the lash line and it gives the eye a little bit more punched.
And now we’re going to put a little bit of powder on top of powder eye shadow, so you just kind of see that I’m using like a gun metal gray black, a little bit, kind of mix them together and then you just go over on top and that sets it as well as blends it, okay.
So now, we’re going to curl your lashes, look straight ahead and what you do is you get as close as you can and you do one squeeze and then you kind of walk it out and you squeeze it one more time like kind of tap, tap, tap and you kind of like walking out, so that you don’t get just a bend, if you get like more of rounded, coat of mascara top and bottom and I always use black.
And when you’re doing your mascara, just kind of, you know, get the product on the brush, wipe off the excess product and they just kind of start at the base to the lash line and rock it back and forth so that you get an even application.
So now, we’re going to do a sheer pink lip, so that it doesn’t compete with the hard eye, the smudged black eye. So it’s really important that you choose a neutral shade and you’ll see like I’ve had a lot of pictures of Hilary and she definitely chooses one or the other either the lip or the eye.
Jay Manuel: For maximum eye opening effect, try matching your eye shadow to the color of your eyes and that’s all you need to get Hillary Duff’s dramatic look.
