Get Twittering - Twitter for Beginners - #6 - Posting Tweets
Welcome back to the Twitter for Beginners Series.
One of the most important parts of using Twitter is knowing how to post your updates. This box is where you’ll post your answer to this very simple question “What are you doing?” Whatever you enter in here will be shared with anyone who is following you and the Twitter community depending on the Privacy Settings you chose.
Don’t let this question intimidate you. Sure, you can post, “Drinking a delicious cup of coffee” or “Going for a run” or “Be back in 20.” But you can also communicate with people you are following and people following you. Just make sure you keep your posts under a 140 character which all you are allowed. This number will show you how many characters you have left. And when it’s negative, it means you’ve gone over.
All your updates will appear here in your Twitter stream as well as the updates of your friends. If you want one of your friends to know that you’re speaking about them then add an At symbol (@) followed by their user name. They’ll then know that you’re directing an update at them.
If you’re following someone and they’re following you back, you can send them a direct message and it will go to private inbox and not be made public on the timeline.
Remember, there are ten parts to this series so don’t forget to check out the other episodes in the Twitter for Beginners Series.
