Getting Rid of Ear Wax Buildup
Dr. Drew Ordon: You don’t think we forgot you here James, do you?
James: No, I don’t think so.
Dr. Drew Ordon: You have another problem. Tell us what your issue is.
James: My issue is I have build up in my ears as sort of ear wax, and I use
a flushing solution every three to four months but --
Dr. Drew Ordon: Is that also some blackheads that you're getting around your ears?
James: Yes.
Female: It’s a common problem especially with men. They tend to have
larger pores in the ears and in the nose. So, there are a couple of
things in the office. We might use a light little salicylic acid and
then extract the blackhead with an extractor which Dr. Sears is
actually we’re going to do for him in just a minute. At home, there
are a couple of things that you can do. One, you can use again,
your Clarisonic cleansing brush but you want to use the different
brush head.
Dr. Drew Ordon: Yes, that would be hard to get that.
Female: This is the softer brush head, right. It’s also smaller. So you just
exfoliate lightly around the outside of the ear with just water. Now,
if you're going to use any kind of exfoliating cleanser, you want to
make sure that you plug your ear with an ear plug first, right,
because we don’t want any sort of chemical getting down into the
ear canal. Another option, if you can get just a little -- let me grab a
little mitt here. You can just use a natty washcloth too. Take your
finger and just really clean your ear out and exfoliate the inside of
the ears here.
Dr. Drew Ordon: To open it up -- to open that up so you can extract whatever is
clogged in those pores.
Female: You’ve got it.
Dr. Drew Ordon: Alright, I'm ready for an extraction. Let's --
Female: So, Ciara is just going to swab his ear with a little bit of alcohol
which helps to loosen up the blackhead. And then, she’ll take her
thrust to the extractor and pop that poppy right out.
Dr. Drew Ordon: Wait, wait, poppy. Is the poppy is here? Yeah, more people than
you think have those little blackheads.
Female: They do.
Dr. Drew Ordon: In your ears and you can't get it yourself.
Female: Well, a lot of times, you don’t know because you can't see inside
your ears so --
Dr. Travis Stork: Hey Drew, you want to bring that blackhead up here after break,
and we can analyze it?
Dr. Drew Ordon: I'm bringing the extractor after the break. And anybody who wants
an extraction can get it. Alright, good stuff.
James: It feels good.
Female: Yeah? Nice and clean.
James: Thank you.
Dr. Travis Stork: Well, thank you all the demonstration.
Dr. Drew Ordon: Well, thanks for joining us here at the X Spa.
