Gifted and Talented School Programs

Host: What is the gifted and talented program? Rene Hackney: The gifted and talented program is often housed under the special education umbrella. Gifted and talented programs identify children to be pulled out for enrichment programs. With evaluating gifted and talented, it used to be that schools systems would really just look at an IQ score. Now many more school systems are looking at IQ score plus teacher recommendations, plus a package of the child's actual work and evaluate that all together. When there is a gifted and talented placement again those can be through the mainstream, through the pull out or through the enclosed classes.
