Hi, this is Rich Day at trafficbumper.com and I have a tip for you today on how to make better video. We have all watched pre-crème videos on Google and YouTube you name it, any video sharing site. They have a common problem and that is that they do not use the right kind of light. They are using insufficient quantities of available light. They might use window light or they might have at the same time lights from the house which maybe tungsten or fluorescent or both. So you have all these mixtures of different colors of light and you cannot adjust for that. So you also you get because of that you get poor color rendition, heavy shadows and un-sharp videos.
So what is the cheap solution? According to your home improvements store, get what this corks two work lights. They are about 10 inches long, 7 inches high, they got a quarts tube in them and they give off a tremendous about of light for about 10 bucks. Now you aim that right up another quarter of the room. And it is going to certainly pick up the color of the walls but as long as the room is relatively neutral that should not be a problem you can adjust for it. But you are going to get a sharp picture. The aperture of your camera is going to close down somewhat and you are going to get more in focus. The depth of field is going to be greater and your lens quality is better in a smaller aperture.
Another solution, a little bit more expensive, go to get fluorescent light boxes and get a couple of them for $175 for both of them which include a couple of lights stands. And, what do you get? You get diffuse light of a constant color temperature and of course, these are portable too.
So in summary you need a lot of light, it needs to be of a constant color temperature and it needs to be diffuse. Well deep shadows.
