Video is very basic, and I'm trying to evaluate its utility in helping an older relative who is just beginning to work on computer. I'll also view the other 9 videos in this series. Thanks; the beginner is often lost in the computer shuffle--and I definitely don't want to discourage him from the new world awaiting his entry and participation!

Gmail for Beginners - #1 - Creating Your Gmail Account

Welcome to Getting Started with Gmail. These days more and more people are using the internet to connect with friends and family and many people are choosing to send and receive their email using a web based email service. One of the most popular web based email service is Gmail. Gmail is a product of Google, so if you already have a Google account you can go ahead and sign in here. If not no problem, just click and sign up for Gmail. Enter in your full name and choose a desired log in name. Each log in name is original so if the one you want isn't available you can choose from one of these suggested available names or try choosing a new one. Next choose the password and reenter it to make sure it matches. You can choose to have your password remembered on your computer and to enable web history which allows Google to keep track of what you’re searching for and will help to get you more relevant search results. Then choose a security question and answer it which helps if you forget your password. You need to enter a secondary email account so you can verify your Gmail account. This can be any other email account that you currently used. The last steps are to select your location. Type in the word verification and accept the terms of service. Now you can visit your new Gmail account and here is your very own Gmail account. Remember there are ten parts to these series so don’t forget to check out the other parts in Getting Started with Gmail.
