Alex Fees: Inside the SEMA 2007 exhibition hall, Yokohama Tire Corporation demonstrates, it is a company on the moon. While Yokohama's tire liners proven to be environmentally friendly and green, red means go. When it comes to the 2008 Tesla Roadster capable of speeds of more than 135 miles per hour. This demon speeds on ultra high-performance, Yokohama tires and to say this car is electric is not just a reference to its appeal.
Mike Koplin: One of the cars that we have in our booth this year is the Tesla, Electric Roadster. Now this is a $100,000 car that will go 135 miles an hour, 220 miles to 250 miles range, so it's a high-performance electric car. Like now, one tire that met their needs and that was the Advan
Alex Fees: And this is where the rubber meets the road when it comes to Yokohama's environmentally friendly green initiatives. The Super E-spec passenger tire utilizes a process that combines citrus oil with natural rubber to reduce petroleum use. And the Z environment truck tire has green benefits as well.
Mike Koplin: Behind me over there, there are also some of our new commercial truck tires, our Z environment line. These tires are designed to give up to 10% better fuel efficiency for the truck fleet. It's also designed to last longer so that you can retry them, so there is less scrap tire down the road.
Alex Fees: Koplin says, Yokohama customers can also do their parts to be green and environmentally friendly by doing one simple thing, check your tire pressure.
Mike Koplin: It's frightening or shocking. How many people are enduring - their tires are under inflated and even if you have a tire pressure warning system in your car, lot of times those systems do not activate or do not send warnings, until you're 25% under inflated. So, I think that every small business operator would just check the air pressures in his tires. Whether it's a fleet, his personal car or whatever, he will get better fuel mileage, the tires will last longer, and he will save money.
Alex Fees: Yokohama officials say, they have zero emissions plans in Japan and they are expanding that approach to their facilities in another parts of the world.
