Clubhouse Gas
Casey: Today on Clubhouse Gas we’ll have a golf tip that you guys can do out at the baseball field while you’re waiting on your kids to get done with practice from PGA teaching pro Don Peterson. Also we’re going to talk to League Administrator about a 90% rule, what she calls a 90% rule and then we got NFL player Leonard Pope and all ACC running back to show our choice talking about how important agility drills are for football players as opposed to full contact drills.
You know as I’m out and about I talk to people who are fans of the show. They tell me you know Casey, I love the show but there are times I get so busy I don’t get to the computer and when I do get to the computer I’m running through my emails, I’m checking everything and I realize later that I’ve gotten up from the computer without checking out that day’s episode of Clubhouse Gas is there any way you can remind me. Well maybe that’s the case with you to.
Even my wife forgets to watch her husband sometimes which in paying too much send us an email, go over the contact us and the subject put remind me. Say you want to be reminded at 9:15, 9:30 in the morning and 2:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon 4:00 in the morning whatever it is we’ll send you a daily reminder so you remember to go check out Clubhouse Gas and we’ll tell you even what we’re doing that day. Remember everyday Monday through Friday you get a new show at 9:00 a.m. so you don’t want to do your reminder too early which you’ll get the previous day show.
So send us a contact we’ll get in touch with you everyday and remind you to check out the gas. We don’t want you to miss a single show. Up for you now though PGA teaching pro Don Peterson who has seriously, seriously helped my game of course when you’re golf game is as low as mine is it’s really hard to go anywhere but up. Here’s Don now out at the baseball field.
Don: High I’m Don Peterson PGA golf professional. I got a little tip for you. Today, I was sitting around waiting for the game to end. Most of the time in baseball I see hitters that come through because the ball is coming at him 90 miles an hour, their spinning and keeping their body back to make contact with the ball. And golf you want to go through the ball with your body weight and finish up on your lead side which for me is my left side.
So what I’m going to do I’m going to give you a little drill here you are going to wind up very short term with your hips and go through and pop the ball with your hips and finish tall and balanced on your left side. And what I see a lot of times when people do this drill is their using their shoulders just like they do in baseball maybe and some bad golf swings. What I would like you to do is learn to use your hips, turn through tall and balance on your left side, knees touching.
Another thing I like to do is tell people to have symbols on the inside of their knees and slam the symbols as you come through. If you can do all of that put the club in your hand, a little back swing and then get your hips working as you go through the golf ball I think you’re going to have a better golf shots and lower scores. I hope that helps you and again I’m Don Peterson and checkout my website at www.swingfactory.com thanks and have a great day.
Casey: Thanks Don, it really, really works. I’m not kidding. It really, really works. I mean I’m still bad but I’m less bad than before Don Peterson’s baseball-golf swing method so you guys check it out. Up and front of the show Jane Wilcomb, she’s al eague administrator and she’s talking about the 90% Rule. Here it is.
Have you seen more of a difference, a shift in that Jane where maybe it becomes more about the big picture and not about what the fundamental of view sports is all about which is teaching kids?
Jane: That’s true, you got to remember that about 10% of your program will go on and play all star tournament ball, travel team whatever you’re offering and the 90% are the ones that are cheering them on but they are the heart and soul of your program and we don’t want to ever forget that 90% so what you’re saying is correct.
Casey: A lot of times football coaches when practice starts for youth leagues, they want to get the kids in the pads and knocking heads as quick as possible and as a lineman I can tell you knocking heads is fun and knocking heads is important but we talked to a couple of big time athletes. Arizona Cardinals tight end, Leonard Pope and all ACC running back to show our choice about the importance of the non-contact drills in youth sports, about the agility aspect, and here’s what they have to say:
Male: The point of angle is you know you got to go with their gym’s and stuff but those are little drills and the thing is that they do is going to help in the game and you know with the speed and you know the agility wise the kids have to learn how to cut you know the one form a lot of those so these are just the little things that they have to do.
Male: Just a lot of footwork and everything you know it comes with it is important you know you use that on the football field so coming out here doing agilities, doing you know 40-yard dash you know working on your start, the amount of things to get you fast and they win a football games in a year.
Casey: It’s been a great day here on Clubhouse Gas where else do you get a PGA teaching pro giving you golf tips at a baseball field, a League Administrator talking about the 90% rule and all ACC running back and an NFL Tight End talking to me about agility drills all in a span of 5 minutes only right here on Clubhouse Gas. If you don’t want to miss these shows this is good stuff.
So to keep you from forgetting, go to contact us, send us your email and we’ll remind you daily at the time you decide. You do that because I want to join you and hang out everyday. Thank you so much for hanging out today we’ll see you right back her tomorrow on Clubhouse Gas.
