Dave: Welcome to Golf is Hard TV and the Golf Show for the Rest of Us, and we are continuing with creating passionate golfers, Paulina and Kate. I am in a venture say they have been working hard in their game. It’s been a couple of weeks, you saw the introductory episodes a while back and now, we are gearing up for the big competition.
So this is where the rubber meets the road. We got to practice right here on the range. We are going to work on the swings a little bit. We’ve talked a lot about the short game and how important is working, chipping and putting, but we are limited in time. We are going to be filming movie so we got to get to, we got to start to hit the ball out there and see what we can do in a golf course and we are hoping that we are going to be able to get to the golf course in future episodes and show you these guys in action.
So with that we are going to have some fun. So we are going to work on the swing a little bit, show you some of the progress we are making and then go from there. Just a little recap as to what we are going to be working on with Paulina and Kate today.
Last episode, we gone through the grip and posture, which are key fundamentals. We are going to be doing a lot of review of that today, but as far as the swing part goes, we really have to get them to learn how to used their hands. You remember that we’ve reviewed rotating the hands and the club-head at 180 degrees and what also is going to come into play here is the casting, the Mark’s casting call. No fun intended, because we have acts here but when they get to the top of the swing, the first start in order to get that club to the ball is to get the club-head moving, which means this kind of thing. So that’s what we are going to be looking at today. Excellent! Good! That’s key down here, this is the key part.
Kate: Yeah, like I said it, I keep putting up the butt and the club right up against.
Dave: Yeah, this way you got a feel. This is where it feels like in the left hand then right hand on, perfect. So we are just thinking about hand movement here and how the hands are letting the club-head go and you could feel -- I could feel your forms are lot more relaxed now.
Kate: Yeah, now I am trying to mentally like -- I didn’t even know that like I was trying to make it all come from here.
Dave: Yeah, it’s really -- that's that’s the thing that. We want you to learn first is to really – the proper grip will allow you relax your hands and arms and everything else, so the club-head can actually move faster. Remember in our last time, we said tight muscles and slow muscles.
Kate: Right, right.
Dave: That’s going to exactly where it is.
Kate: Right, right, and I keep trying to remember to keep the grip loose by doing that first to feel how loose it can be.
Dave: And there is a little bit of tension that comes in forefingers. And there is a little bit on the middle two fingers where you can feel kind of, I don’t want to say locking up like gripping the club.
Kate: I know that make sense.
Dave: So let’s see your good posture.
Kate: Okay.
Dave: Back up, just a little, just very, very little about an inch. Right up, bend forward, let the arms hang so it’s got to be easy together kind of feeling, to be in the right position and then this. Then we want to try to as you lengthen the swing, just let them relax, turn your back, and target, that’s what you want to get. Then just try to feel this, like throwing the club-head down right to there. And then let it go. Straight, look good, perfect. So I could tell you grip in a more lightly because the club lift around and went all the way through the finish, try it. All way back and lift it through, nice. See you hit the tee there.
Kate: I know.
Dave: Perfect. That ball would have gone up in the air. Fingers, posture is perfect. Now we get to turn the club for us and then get. This is what you are having a hard time doing this regular.
Paulina: Yeah, I think I am holding.
Dave: You know do that on your own. That’s okay. It’s okay to move the body but you want to let the body follow the club. Flip down those wrists, so when you’re right here, when this arm is parallel to the ground, the club should be right here pointing to the ground. Straight down like this. Your wrists are fully set there. You don’t have to do any more with your hands, that’s where your shoulder turn, and that from there just take the club-head, flow to the ball, hit the opposite right here. So when you are on this side, and you want to let that arm straight and out on to the ball. Good, straight.
So we are kind of doing the grip. Let it relax, relax the arm so that it almost, stay down, that’s cool. Then go to the club-head first. We are talking about gripping. Do that on your own, just flip it, right at the ball, that’s it, good. Little faster, swing it. Just take your hands, Paulina. Right here, right here, just start this pulling down as quickly as you can. Just put the hands on, go, good. You could swing, right up here for the whole thing, just let it turn. Flip it. Okay, good. Now do it faster, flip it. Excellent, try it again, it’s getting here, Paulina.
Paulina: Show me.
Dave: You are dropping the whole thing, just get this go. Get this go. Right away, flip it. Good, try it again. Flip it. Okay change.
Kate: I am trying to do everything right. But the few times I have made contact, the ball has gone straight from the tee into this metal post and I want to know why. So I don’t know if it’s a clubface issue or what and the few times I have really, you know, it’s got in sailing, it just hooks so hard that way.
Dave: It went off to the right?
Kate: Yeah, like I literally hit this metal pole a couple of times.
Dave: So what part of the clubface, what about clubface up and you think you hit it.
Kate: I am obviously way too open.
Dave: Probably, if you're not way over there, my guess is, you kind of came in and hit it just like that. You wouldn't that -- I don’t think you could do that all. So, you just kind of nick the ball, and it's just grip pressure. You are squeezing a club too hard, just let it relax and let it swing. You come right back to the ball.
Kate: Well, how do you keep track of where I mean that’s my problem. Is this as soon as you are all the way back here, how do you keep track of where the club face is?
Dave: That’s why your set up is so important, you can’t keep track.
Kate: Alright.
Dave: You don’t really want to -- think about it as like you said.
Kate: That’s what I am thinking of.
Dave: You are thinking.
Kate: Yeah.
Dave: Really, that’s the way you want to be thinking about, that will take you set up. Good grip pressure I am thinking about, everything free swing. Good. Good grip, alright. Posture is good. Excellent! Now you just want to thinking about -- actually you can start, make sure the ball is in the middle of your stance, and start with your hands, you just put a little bit of pressure on it.
Kate: Oh, okay.
Dave: Now you just want to be thinking about, as earlier advised, getting the club-head moving, right grip pressure and swing it all the way through, all the way through.
Kate: Okay.
Dave: So you’re really aggressive tennis back hand.
Kate: I know, I know, and as soon as I know that I am going to follow it through I put, look I literally put muscle into it and I know that that’s not what I am supposed to be doing.
Dave: With the muscle into the club-head, with the hands. Paulina, we have some more to do. Good.
Kate: It sounds great when there is no ball there.
Dave: Go ahead. So you know take one practice swing before each shot. Have you get any up, Paulina?
Paulina: Yeah, but it went like.
Dave: Okay. Back up from the ball just about an inch. This is what you are exaggerated, you like this too much.
Male Speaker: Like thumb in the middle of fairway.
Dave: See where my hands are.
Paulina: Yeah.
Dave: If I let them hang.
Kate: It didn’t go up like that. I wanted it to go up.
Male Speaker: So this is too much straight up.
Kate: Okay.
Dave: You want to be forward, so your arms are up front. That’s really -- a really important thing.
Kate: So many things to think about. Alright, that was awesome. I am done. I am done.
