Welcome to PCWizKid’s Tech Talk, today I want to talk about the final release of Google Chrome that just came out today December 11th. Now in my previous video I talked about the Beta and so I have the Beta installed and always said the word Beta here at the bottom. It’s been like 15 updates since I installed the Beta and they finally came out with the final so I did the upgrade of the final version just today.
And I got 1.0 1.5.36 that is the final version and basically they done a lot of fix a lot of patches. One of the most important ones was being able to play back video right? So Google knows of the issues that users reported for example in YouTube videos. You did a lot of fast forwarding and moving the slider bar back and forth and doing things with your video. It wouldn’t play anymore it would just playing right? So it freeze basically so I mean there were issues with video playback and they addressed that out casted it and I haven’t any issues.
So I am very pleased to see that Google has addressed the user’s needs to get this working. And of course on top of that they Tweaked Chrome even further to make it speedier. So indeed I did find it a little bit faster than the previous Betas that I have. So if you guys thought that this was fast to begin with – it’s even faster now. So you might want to even try it, I did a little bit of benchmarking, we know that this Chrome browser is using the web kit. The free open source code for web browsers and on that web site they have this general benchmarks that you can run.
So without going into really all of the specifics here of this numbers, what I really did was using this online benchmarking. I took the latest version Firefox 3.04, I took Chrome the final version and I did a comparison on these benchmarks. And basically Chrome beat everything hands down against Firefox; it was definitely faster in all its Java Script or Java calculations. The methods, the way that it goes through these benchmarks is basically a lot of different types of Java based calculation scores things like that, so over 2,000 was the score here that I got. And then 196 for Firefox, so you can see that Chrome kind of left Firefox in the dust on this one
So and then you can compare this of course Beta 2, Safari and same thing Chrome beat them all. So it’s definitely faster now of course you can try this yourself – you don’t need benchmarks for this. Just open it up and clear your cache right and open up a page for the first time. Just refresh your page and see how fast it loads for you – did the images come up fast? Does everything loading? Pug-ins things like that – that you got how fast is it? So you can do that in Firefox then you can flip over to Chrome and do the exact same thing.
You can try opening six tabs at the same time; see if which one opens six tabs faster for example right? For the same exact site, so you can tell – that Chrome definitely does load things a little bit faster. Not too much but a little bit faster depending on the type of page, so give it a try – go check it out the final is out at Google.com-Chrome. I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching.
