Christy: Hey, welcome to watch mojo.com, I'm your host Christy and today will be looking at the Grand Slam of tennis. The Australian open is held each January at Melbourne Park. It is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments to be held each year. The tournament was held for the first time in 1905. Like our Grand Slam tournaments there are mens and womens single competitions, mens, womens and mixed doubles as well as junior and master competitions.
The French open is held over two weeks between mid May and early June in Paris, France. It is the second of the Grand Slam tournaments of the annual tennis calendar, because of the slow playing surface and the five set man single matches without a tie breaker in the final set. The advantage considered by many to be the most physically demanding tennis tournament in the world.
Wimbledon is the oldest major championship in tennis and is widely considered to be the most prestigious. Held annually between late June and the beginning of July for two weeks at the all England lawn tennis and Croquet club in London, England. The tournament is the third Grand Slam event played each year.
The United State open tennis tournament, commonly referred to as the U.S. is the fourth and final event of the grand slam tennis tournament. It is held annually in August and September over the two week period. The U.S. Open is different from the other three grand slam tournaments in that they are final set tie breaks. In the other three majors the fifth set of the man and the third set for the women continues until some one wins by two games.
