Announcer: Real World Green is brought to you by Primowater, bottles made from plants, not crude oil. Learn more at Primowater.com
Eric Gunnar Rochow: Hey everyone! I am Eric Rochow, and this is Real World Green. Today, we tackle the tough one, bottles of water. Most plastic water bottles like this are made from petroleum based plastics which is a non-renewable resource. We pump it all out of the ground, we make plastic like this, we drink it, and we pass it away. And I say most, because there is a new company out there that is doing something a little bit different.
This is Primo Water. It's almost empty because I've been drinking it while I have been shooting here. The Primo Water, the plastic used to make these bottles is made from renewable plant based materials, which I think is pretty cool.
I also learned that to make this kind of bottle from renewable plant materials instead of petroleum like this, takes 65% less energy to make, which is really cool. If all the plastic, that beverage bottles in United States were made from renewable plant materials instead of non-renewable petroleum materials like this, we would save a billion gallons of gasoline a year.
I mean, that's a huge number. How many times can I drive my car around the United States on a billion gallons of gas? I mean Real World Green is about being practical and pragmatic and we all don't live in a yurt with a composting toilet, at least not yet. And there are times when you are going to want bottled water.
So I have my choice between -- if I have my choice between plastic from petroleum or plastic from renewable plant materials, I am going to pick this one. It's a good thing. We need to stay hydrated. We are out there exercising, or riding our bike or whatever, we need to have water.
This bottle is good for the environment because it's made from the renewable material, and this container can be composted in a commercial composting facility. These petroleum based ones, toss them in the land field, and they are in tomb forever.
So think about it. You can learn more at Primowater.com and also at the Green House, green-house.TV So make it a great day. I will see you later.
