This week we are going to talk about something really different. Now, the type of plant I am going to talk about today is a Pitcher plant. This is not something that you can just grow anywhere. These grow in bugs so you have to have either a man made pond or you have created a bug or find an area that is buggy. If you have that then you can grow this and they are really fun.
What I want to show you are one of these Pitcher plants, you are looking at the actual pitcher. What happens here if you do not know is that there is a scent that the bugs are attracted to and the bugs go down into this and the plant actually dissolves the bugs and that how it lives. It really does not live so much on soil. The interesting thing about this particular one and why I want to show it to you today is that it has these incredibly bizarre flowers. Look at this, this is the flower and it really is unique. You do not see anything like this. The closest thing I can think of is a hellebore. It kind of reminds me of that a little bit but this pretty interesting. There is another one in another part of this particular garden I want to show you so we are going over there.
All right, so we have come to a different part of the pond here. Again, very buggy soil and this particular pitcher plant is really interesting. It has got this wonderful reddish color but the same principle, the bugs go down inside here, it has got this wonderful, again, really bizarre flowers and this will continue to come back every year and it just makes a very interesting conversation piece and interesting in addition to the wet land garden or to the bug garden. Okay, so we have talk about this particular type of plant today, the pitcher plant which is very different, not everybody can grow one of these and certainly you might not have the area to grow them in but we hope you come back often to see all of our tips here at there is something for you at growingwisdom.com.
