Growing Tomatoes From Seed

Decide how many plants you want and sow a few extra seeds–just in case. Place seeds on soil surface, evenly spaced. Use seed or multi purpose compost.
Using a pencil or dibber, sow just below the surface, about ¼” or 6 mm. Cover with cling film, water from below and keep around 18 to 21 C (65 to 70 F). As soon as the seedlings come through, around 5 to 10 days, remove cling film and put them in a light position.
Keep seedlings out of direct sunlight until they are a few days old. No need to feed seedlings as there’s enough food in the compost.
Seed varieties have different germination times. By keeping each variety separate they are easier to manage when they come through.
The humidity of the propagator has helped these seedlings discard their shells or husks. Don’t over water at this stage or they’ll shoot up like rockets.
Transplant to their own pots when they grow their first true leaves.
