If you know someone with a Basil plant you can pinch off some of the new growth and stick it in potting soil and it will take off. So also with Oregano and others. Also, when your plant reaches the height you want, pinching off the top new growth frustrates the plant vertically so it branches horizontally and fills out. Sweet Basil is a very rewarding plant to grow because it tastes so much better fresh than dried and goes well in so many dishes, such as spaghetti sauce.
