David Epstein: Hi, I am David Epstein. This is Growing Wisdom. We are here with Howard Anderson. I will be in Maine, Johnny’s Selected Seeds. This is part of you test garden. I guess one more of the green house is here. And I wish the folks who are watching us could actually taste this or smell it standard in fantastic basil. You guys have this part it that makes it very easy for folks at home to get their basil to grow?
Howard Anderson: We have all the kind of herb this for we are taking our seed and put it into this biodegradable fabric. This is simply plant in the pot water it and you get basil.
David Epstein: That is pretty cool so there are actually seeds inside this fabric. So if someone gets one of these packages in the mail they open it up what do they do?
Howard Anderson: You get you pot and fill two about inch and a half or so from the top of lip there and wet it slightly, put the disk in top, cover a little more soil, sprinkle water and you are done.
David Epstein: That is pretty simple so no need to thin either?
Howard Anderson: No, it is all, you seed just space falling of apart it is just comes dried up and it is good to go.

David Epstein: It is also works in the winter, right? If you are watching this in middle of January and you had a sunny window you could do this inside or outside?
Howard Anderson: Absolutely.
David Epstein: That is great. What would this look like after a week or so?
Howard Anderson: This is done about a week ago so it turns two weeks ago, three and four weeks. This is one are were done about eight weeks ago.
David Epstein: And when can you start using the leaves like someone who wanted to put some of this is salad or in sandwich or with some tomatoes?
Howard Anderson: You can really can use it this big if you really want it too but I probably wait few more weeks until you have something about maybe half the size you can start harvesting.
David Epstein: Should you prune this a little bit?
Howard Anderson: You can pinch the back, keep it a little shorter and pinch the flowers out of it.
David Epstein: Do you have the same sort of technology in other types of plants? We are going to have a list of bring in some of the different herbs as well.
Howard Anderson: Yes.
David Epstein: We have again the succession.
Howard Anderson: Yes.
David Epstein: Tell me what we planted here?
Howard Anderson: We have arugula, basil, cilantro, parsley, thyme and chives it was six all together.
David Epstein: What fantastic about this instead of someone has a small home maybe they do not have a big garden and they do not have space you could grow this just in a sunny spot and have literally six different herbs.
Howard Anderson: Yes, just like that.
David Epstein: And so you basically plant the same exact way that you show us the basil, you could do this with any of the seed?
Howard Anderson: Any, they all the same.
David Epstein: Where can I buy this?
