Guide to Features in the Google Chrome Browser
Welcome to PCWizKidTech.Talk. Today I wanted to talk about the new Google Chrome Web Browser. So my first impressions here they are. First things first. Let’s go to the Google Website and download it so go to Google.com/Chrome to download the beta so remember this is still in beta mode so you don’t want to go ahead and assume that it’s ready and bug free. So right now first things first is drain the setup whatever I run it, I had Firefox running at the same time so when it got to the point that it ask me to import my bookmarks and settings I had to skip it because it wouldn’t allow me to do it unless I’ll shut down Firefox.
Okay so just keep that in mind as soon as you’re done going through the process here of running it, it will ask you if you want to download your settings and of course you can customize the settings and choose for Internet Explorer if you’re using that instead of Firefox.
These are the default settings that are in there to import and install the new Google Chrome Web Browser. SO I skipped it like I said and then it automatically then continued and launched the new Web Browser. So the first thing you wanted to mention when you first look at it you want to thank oh this is all it is well it is pretty clean straight forward, it’s got tabs right so often with the tabs they’re fixed with a width so can’t adjust the sides of those tabs that’s what they look like. It’s got the field here that you can type in ahead; it’s got the Smart url search here for you all in one box. So this is long url field here is not just for that but also protecting in your search, my flash was working right off the bath so I didn’t have to go in and download any Plugins or anything the themes, there are no themes okay so what you see is what you get by default that blue thing is there and that’s what you get.
A little plus sign there adds a new tab right when you get a new tab it will tell you the most visited sites that you want to recently right and your history so it will keep that in there and you can manipulate those in two things with those thumbnails snapshots of what you’ve recently accessed right through that new tab option.
So I like this tab because they’re a little bit more dynamic now than the previous tabs from Firefox or IE so, that’s a nice little feature that they’ve done with this tabs. Now all of the options are accessible on the right hand side now, right so if you wanted to access. For example this new incognito option which allows you to browse without keeping in the history on your PC about where you went well you have to go up here to the right and side. If you will at use the add application shortcut option you got to go through the right hand side. So just it take a little bit of gaining used to write it the options on the right but that’s because you want to keep things not cluttered right so for the adding a new application shortcut you would open up your Google Male page, click on that option and then ask you what do you want to make a shortcut to, your desk top, press okay and then you get a little shortcut to your Gmail on your desktop. So that’s what this is all about new features that they’re working on adding like the developer of view here for access and in viewing the source but it clean easy to read the source that’s always welcome but everything is pretty much the same as in Firefox had been very options that I see, the way the buttons behave you know like adding a bookmark that’s the same popup Window that is in Firefox. The icons so there’s less icons and see those buttons at the top forwards, backwards reload, it was all the all you’ve got and then you’ve got these icons there on the right hand side for accessing your history, your downloads, cleaning your browser, the options all of that.
Now I did find that under the options though the ability to add the home button so you know how on most buses you get like a home button, well that’s still the way to add that is to going through the options and that in there you can do some changes right so for example you want to add to what page the browser will open up first when you launched it so you can just go ahead and add that. That’s nothing new and we have that already in other browsers but this is how you do it right, just so you know. The same type of options exist here it’s just a matter of going and finding them. So show home button here it is right and just check it off and then it will add it at the top of the barrel in between these other buttons, so just check it off here and that you’ll see it here up here on the top.
Okay so that’s how you get no more if you want to print and press control P right and if you wanted to be in History well you got to go through the other ways that showed your second and go through the history. There’s some minor tweaks right that you can go ahead and select where do you want things to be downloaded to and you wanted to ask you where you download things to and stuff like that so nothing I don’t know ordinary of this your standard basic features that a web browser should have and I’m glad that they added it in here right so these are all standard and expected options so I’m glad that they exist.
So the only thing to remember is I’ll always go to the right hand side, right to access that. It has built in security all right so it will tell you or hint or give you hints when you’re trying to access some suspicious sites so something looks shady and could be a potentially and a hazard and malicious content that will let you know but that’s good. But other than that when you right click on the toolbars you have to top and you go to add bookmarks and it was like that, that’s still all the same.
Right it’s just the interface, it’s cleaner now, you got more room to navigate this and you’ve seen more of the webpage now so I like the fact that it does that, it’s just that you got this little long url bar at the top though and everything is accessible at the right. Now, these are the dynamic tabs that I was telling you about a few. Hold on to a tab and drag it down or manipulate things back and you could actually have another browser open up instantly right by just dragging it out of that. Another feature is the task manager, if I right click here at the top and then access the task manager Google made a task manager for the browser itself. So if something hangs on your browser, you don’t have to shut down the entire browser and launch it again. You can end the task of just that one process, right so if it’s a flash that’s causing the problem for example I’ll just go ahead and end the process of my video that’s running here on this webpage right and then there you go, it ends the task for that video, it’s dead now and now I can continue browsing and doing my business here right on the page.
So I though it was a reload and just click on the reload button back in business again, right, it refreshes it so it’s nice to know that you can have a little bit more control of what is going on between the tabs if something hangs you can still regain control, you don’t have it to shut the moves everything that you just url that, right.
Other features like clearing the browser, history and all that, that’s still the same, latest popup Windows and they look mostly done to be called to Firefox, nothing new there. It’s just a matter of going in and looking at them, trying them out right again on the right hand side. When you get a chance and if you’re interested in trying the beta of Google Chrome go ahead through the website. Google.com/Chrome and download the data. Try it out then you know what you think and I hope you like this video and thank you for watching.
