First, the basics. Why do we have traffic? Because there are too many of you *** out there trying to stop your SUVs to the same place at the same time. We already know we have too many people here but somehow people keep making babies.
Yes, we keep building more houses and inviting more people to live here and more people keep moving here everyday.
Welcome to California, enjoy our weather, play on our beaches, see our landmarks, just leave your money with us, we will take good care of it. Now, please go back where you came from.
Some of you might remember how we have tried to limit our growth. It has been a key issue on our local politics but the developers in search of money are like living dead. They will do anything and everything. They will lie and cheat to steal an election to put pro development people in decision-making positions. You cannot stop them forever.
This little commodity is called dirt. It is getting harder and harder to find. Everywhere, we currently have dirt. Somebody is trying to cover it up with pavement or concrete, if they have not covered it up yet, they are just waiting for the opportunity.
When I first came here, this was a farm. For a quarter of a mile that way, and a mile that way, and a mile behind me, all of these was growing tomatoes and strawberries. There was nothing over two feet tall in this entire lot. Now look what we have, we have three-storey condos, we have industrial complexes, we have shopping centers, we have grown concrete and think of all the wildlife we are disrupting with each new invasion of what was once their territory.
When they built this shiny new shopping center, where did the rodents that used to live in the vacant lot go? They went into the backyards of the neighboring homes. When that giant urban sprawl, we called Los Angeles becomes more unlivable, where will those people scatter to? They are going to come into the outlying community, they are going to come here. It is not just here, they are trying to escape in all directions.
