When you hear the phrase public transit most people think buses. Every body knows my car can get faster than this 45-foot bus. So, if I own a car I think I can go someplace faster using my car. People using public transportation is low class losers. You are stuck in a bus and in my car I have my freedom. I can go any where I want.
Day after day, most Californians they grudgingly get on their car and fight their way to work wherever they are going in bumper to bumper traffic. If you put a bus on the same road I am driving on, all you are doing is clogging it up more.
I suspect the majority of people potentially users do not even know the name of their local bus system much less where it goes or how to use it. Ask a 15-year-old kid to tell you every detail. If you do not speak English, you know exactly how to get around town without using a car.
Of course, that probably means you come from a place where using public transportation is not so culturally outrageous. Our public transportation has been reduced to a bus line for people to pore and drive a car. In Ventura county, we have a lot of dissociated little bus line. They seem to have no interest in handing off riders to the next city.
The only local bus line that services multiple cities in our area is Gold Coast Transit which has recently been renamed from SCAT (South Coast Area Transit) in the time that I have been shooting this video. The name is still up in their bus stop signs all over town. SCAT as in “go away”. It is the name made used for several decades. I guessed they finally looked up the internet definition of SCAT and they decided to tell that name to go away.
Many of our local transit agencies used their city name so at least their consumers can figure out what the bus is for. Most of the local bus agencies have cute, little acronyms like the Camarillo Area Transit or CAT. How cute? Or the Filmore Area Transit. FAT, not so cute. Which sure seem hung up on the phrase Area transit.
Up north, Santa Maria Area Transit added the extra art to their name to get SMART. People further, little buses with SMART written on the sides running around town and they thought they were for “special kids”. Sorry about that cheese and adding the extra art did not work for Filmore. They just can not win, can they? They finally ended up with FATCO. There was a word, TO why did they leave the area out of their name.
