Hi! I am Bob from Toronto, Canada. This lesson is about how to play freestyle jazz solos like this.
[Guitar Demonstration]
This lesson only applies if you are playing on your own. If you are playing on a band, then you need to learn three.
First, we need to do is to sink or peak the notes which is to play in a rhythm like this.
[Guitar Demonstration]
And not straight like this.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Okay, the first exercise, play all the notes at the 5th, 6th and 7th positions like this.
[Guitar Demonstration]
And so on. Practice that for a while and then playing those same notes, mix them up like --
[Guitar Demonstration]
Go all over the place, and throw on some slides and hammer on’s, just throw it all over the place like that and speed it up a little later like so.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Now, just practicing that for a while and then later on, play the same thing in the 5th position, and then slide into another position like the 3rd fret.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Back into the 5th.
[Guitar Demonstration]
And try another position like the 7th by keeping that three figured position, the pattern.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Then slide into another position and mix them all up.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Once you are comfortable with that and you have practiced that for a while, start using your pinky finger like so.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Then we are just going to have the hang of that with your pinky and mix it all up.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Playing in all different positions.
[Guitar Demonstration]
Then while you are playing, throw in some other chords like --
