Alright lovely children, Your Guitar Sage here! Today, we’re going to learn “Can’t Buy Me Love” by The Beetles. This is done with a hand of capo so we’re just open chord today, okay. I’m looking at my chart here on the screen, I’m going to play it here for you and then we’ll talk about some techniques and that sort of thing. Okay so, here we go [Demonstration].
Okay, we played the verse again but I’m going to go straight into the chords so we can explain this, pretty simple song. So the chords are going to go [Demonstration]. That’s the whole song, so let’s talk about it.
By the way, any of the techniques I’m using here today that you don’t understand, check out you’re guitarsage.com, check out some videos on chords, strumming and all that stuff too it’s because you’re only a newbie and you do not know what I’m doing chords wise, so you can look and see I’m playing the C and you know what that means, something that you don’t know there, so it’s important to check out those other beginner videos, okay.
Alright, so here we go, intro is going to go—oh by the way, yourguitarsage.com has also an eBook that will really help you and also it will—you can check how to get a hold to this chart and my other charts as well, so checkout your guitarsage.com. Okay, here we go. The chords for this—song’s in four—so each measure is for four beats and there is not split bars, there is no chords sharing on measure here. So just four beats per chord, so intro is going to go, I’m going to slow it down, and just it hit on the one, so it’s going to go [Demonstration].
So, it goes one measured E minor, A minor, E minor, A minor, Dm7, and if you don’t know how to play a Dm7, it’s basically a D minor, but you lift this finger up and you take this first finger and you bar, string this one and two, at the first fret and take your second finger and put it at the second fret of the third string. And then basically what I do is where you could just strum from either the fifth or fourth string down, what I do is I bring my thumb up here and mute and then I can knock all the strings that I can still mute.
But, if you’re not used to playing that chord and it will be a little bit difficult for you at first, you work into it, so that will too hard. So after the Dm7, we have a—we’ve got a G, you can play your G like this [Demonstration]. Different ways to play the G chord, but we’re going to play it like this [Demonstration], okay?
And now the verse is going to go four measures of C, two measures of F7, two measures of C, then a G, two F7 and a C. So, it’s going to go—the verse is going to go [Demonstration]. So basically, from my F7, you can do this, your typical F7, you can do this one [Demonstration], you can do this one which is the one I was doing [Demonstration] which is your barre chord, sound the sixth string but don’t pull the sixth string. We got that little staccato note. Staccato note is when you hit a chord like, or any note when you just hit and nothing else. So we got that on that F7 after the G in the last line of the verse. If you’re having a hard time to follow on this, go to your guitarsage.com and see how you can get a hold of this chart, it will help you a lot [Demonstration].
We’re counting through that still, so it’s like [Demonstration]. I’ll do it again [Demonstration].
So this is the verse—I mean this is the chorus, E minor for a measure, A minor for a measure, two measures of C, a measure of E minor, a measure of A minor, another Dm7, and a G. So that’s the tune as far as the chorus. As far as the rhythm, I’m doing like [Demonstration]. If you follow my videos, you’ve heard that a zillion because that was used in the most in rock music, so the strum is going to go like this [Demonstration].
So, just slow that down, if you have any trouble with these strumming rhythms, take your left hand, lay it on the strings and you can do this beat. This is good for practicing where you’re not happen to worry about left and right hand. I would say to my students it’s a bit like a computer processor. If you’re throwing two or three programs at computer, it slows down. You’re brain works the way, you need to break it up into bite size pieces that your brain could process and then add them together as you get good at it.
Take the chords out of it if you can’t do the strumming, just do right hand technique and left hand mute, play your hands on the string as light as a feather and then go [Demonstration]. I’ll slow it down [Demonstration].
