Hey there little ones your guitar sage here! Today we're going to learn how to play “Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley. And I’m just looking at my chart right here, I'm going to jump into it right away. This is a really simple song written off of the 12 bar blues progression which if you haven’t already seen my video on that, checkout yourguitarstage channel, that’s John right now, and type in 12 bar blues and you’ll see an example of how to play this in another key as well. But millions of tunes written off of the 12 bar blues and I will jump into this. For those of you that can just watch I'm doing then great, you’ll be off in about a minute after knowing this tune. For those of you that need more help, stick around I’ll tell you about all the particular things that you can get this tune down.
Okay, so here we go, it’s going to go something like this [Demonstration/Singing]. Okay, that’s the whole chord progression I could play it 10 more times for you but really that’s it. Plus I don’t think you want to hear me singing. So Elvis does it much better.
Okay so, the chords for this tune—let me stop here real quick. For those of you that needs a little bit more help, I have an eBook at yourguitarsage.com that will help with these chords. You won’t have to write down the chords because I'm singing them plus you’ll also be gravy to my collection of charts that I put up all the time for your help. And if you get the eBook of course, I provide that as a free service for you to produce those wonderful charts as I do here.
Okay so here we go, the chords in these are C, F, and G. Some people will play it with C7, and F7 and a G7. So you can do that too or sometimes a C, F7 and a G7. So it sounds a little bit different it sounded like [Demonstration/Singing].
And the most proper way is probably just with a C and F7 and a G7 okay? We’ll probably sound the bass, but let’s keep it simple. You may have an issue playing barre chords, so I'm going to show you a cheat on that too, make it a little bit easier for you.
Okay, all right so, here we go, this song is in four so like [Demonstration]. Okay, there's 12 bars of music or 12 measures of music in this basic chord progression and it’s going to go like this, each chords for one measure sometimes longer. So, in this case, it’s going to go C, C, C, C, F, F, C, C, G, F, C, and then another measure of C and boom, that’s the whole chord progression. So again, [Demonstration] Okay, that’s the whole chord progression.
Now, the rhythm I'm doing for this is like a [Demonstration]. It’s like the beginning of another Presley tune that I'm teaching here too.
But anyhow, what was that? It’s not really an Elvis tune right? Don’t be cruel, there you go. It’s got the same basic feel hound on this and so the rhythm is [Demonstration]. And the rhythm I am doing is [Demonstration]. Okay, if you don’t understand that, that eBook totally covers strumming rhythms that you will—and along with my strumming rhythm video it will totally get your right hand or your strumming hand for you lefties our there. Okay, just do that rhythm for each measure [Demonstration].
Okay, so that’s the idea there. All right, guys I wish there was more to it but there's not, that’s it. we got a lot, so for those of you haven’t go ahead and hit subscribe already and of course go to yourguitarsage.com check out that eBook and keep checking in new videos everyday kids. See ya!
