HP MediaSmart Connect Part 1 of 3 - Unboxing
Today I’ll be looking at the new HP media smart connect. This is a preproduction view. I got this, so this is not on the final packaging. And also the, the case added isn’t the final improved design. I’ll let you see the HP’s newer laptops device, you can look at that fine sort of etching, graving on them that’s really nice. But so this is has got a plain black finish on this unit. So what I’m going to do is going to have a look what’s in the box and then I’m going to connect it up to my media center machine and we’ll see what it does. Okay, so let’s have a look in the box. So this is a pre production unit, so it’s not got the final packaging. Let's see what we got in here. Right, in the middle here we’ve got the main unit, so let’s have a look at that. Now this has got some protective cover on it here, so I’m going to show you this here. So let’s just, got to peel that, see what that’s like from there, very nice finish. If I lift it back here, you should get an idea of the imprint. I think that is going to be all over the, the final unit, leave that on for now. So let’s have a look, we’ve got here. So we got space there for a media drive bay, so this is a portable hard disk that you can put straight in to here and straight off. So I’ll actually going to extend this, the content can go straight here without connecting to the PC first. If you use one of those drive bays. And down here, on this unit, we got a resolution between 1080i and 720p, and a USB port. We’ll give that a try after, again that’s the way of getting content straight in to here. So take a look at the back. We’ve got a reset button, power, optical output for the audio, HDMI, component video, analog audio, Ethernet, and another USB port. So let’s have a look, see what else is in the packaging. Okay, first we got an HDMI cable, that’s nice if that’s included and a power adaptor. And then in this side here, we’ve got quite nice looking remote control. So let’s take that out of the bag, let’s have a look at that. So here’s the remote control. So you can see from here, this is a nice looking remote control, actually a lot more buttons on it than some of the others. So we got the media center button on there. We got some of the controls, source and devices, recorded TV, so the batteries included. So I’ll have a look at that in action in a moment. So what I’ll do now is I’m going to get that hook to my media center machine and we’ll know what it’s like out of the box. So before I power this up, I take all the packaging off so you can have a better look at it. You can see the finish of it here, I’m still not sure that engrave pattern units going to have on it. So, here you can see the size of it now and the finish of it. This is a very nice neat looking box. So what I’m going to do now, I’m going to connect it up to my TV. I normally keep my XBox360 up to, and we’ll have a look at the user interface and what it can do. So the first thing that it’s asking is the language. And I’ll going to show you the screen res in the moment but I think it’s running 1080i at the moment. So, we’ll going to play on the set up on there. I will show you the remote in a minute, but I can nicely zoom in and out, okay. I turn off the sound of my TV. Right. So, it’s asking me to do the PC set up, and the network set up. Let’s do the PC set up, so I guess this is going to scan now for PCs on the network. Looks like I have to go and install the software at the top. Let's have a look at doing that, and I’ll come back to this. Okay, so let's run the set up, it should note that the media, the Windows media connect icon down here, has spotted the machine. And it’s looking to share that, but I’ll follow the, the one that it comes with the CD. So accept and it tells about un-boxing, unblocking network port and so on. But we’re going to leave that for now. And it is saying that it’s recommend to share your media or your media center with your media smart device, so, needs to set the storage for that. That’s really, I think enable you to show what is already enabled on this machine. And now I can skip the current registration and exit. So now I turn the camera down. I want to look at the TV. So let’s continue this set up now, do next and I got this plug VMA to that cable rather than wireless on the future video. So it looks like it’s doing the update now. Okay, we connect it to the network and it looks like it’s going to restart now. This is such a, a preproduction unit, so I think it’s just done an update. Right, so let’s finish the wizard does. So what it showing us there is on the remote control, we got two sections really for the extender. We got Windows media center, which we use the green button as indicate in the remote, and then we got the media smart. On the media smart is a server where I think will give you content for more than one device at once unlike media center where it’s one to one connection. So, we’ll continue with the set up. So now we’re going to do the extender set up part. So follow the wizard, and I think this is going to now, if it’s like the other devices, yup, it’s given me a code to go to the media center machine enter that code. So, I want to go and do that.
