On this edition of the Bleeding Edge we give you a look at the HP Mini 1000 and the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition. Stay tuned.
Hey guys! Welcome to Bleeding Edge TV, I'm Andru Edwards and this is the show that brings you tech news through the eyes of gearlive.com and today we’re going to give you a look and comparison of the HP Mini 1000 computer as you see here and the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition as you can see right here. Now obviously, the initial contrast is quite apparent. The HP Mini looks like it’s your more average, regular, one of the mill–as far as design goes, computer. In the Vivienne Tam Edition, is red, has flowers on it and is actually designed by, if you couldn’t guess, Vivienne Tam. This one is meant for women. It’s the digital clutch computer versus the mini, this one is actually the mini Me because it runs the custom Linux distribution that HP put together for this computer specifically. Let me turn them both around and give you a look inside, actually, I'm going to show you–actually the outside first.
So, this one is the HP imprints, finished that, we’ve actually grown to knowing love quite a bit just because it gives it some personality on the computer and when you feel it, it just feels like regular, like its just smooth. You can even feel the design. Its very cool, the way that they do that and the process that they used to make that happen. Here on the back you just see a little bit of silver and then the whole rest of the body is black, matte black. If you open it up and look on the inside, the same thing, you see the matte black finish there. Again, its really more of a–aside from like how it looks and how nice and compact it is, and how light it is, both of these are under two and half pounds.
The Mini Me version of the Mini doesn’t really–isn’t really that striking if you ask me. We actually have XP installed on our Mini Me just because we like to play around with our operating systems. This one starts at $329 depending on what operating system you want and what you want the specs to be. The Linux version starts at 329.
Now lets move on to the Vivienne Tam Version. Very specialized, very customized and when we have this around women at CES, there’s almost like crack. They just wanted to take it, steal it, and bring it home and really not let me have it anymore. So, they’ve done something right as far as appealing to the females. And if you are female, take a look, let us know what you think. Drop us a comment or an email. On the back here, its all they–you got the red. You’ve got a little bit of silver right there. If we open it up, remove this protective shield, keyboard, screen shield. We actually can see the difference if we put this side by side as well. Again, these keys are matte over here. They’re not glossy compared to the Vivienne Tam version where the keys are a glossy red and the color of the type face on them varied as well because the -- have black and white on the regular Mini. When you move onto the Vivienne Tam version, it’s actually gold. It looks like gold on white. It also has the Vivienne Tam name here on the bottom right hand side of the palm rest. Both computers are pretty much the same except for the design and if I pull out some of the other stuff that comes with the Vivienne Tam Edition, you’ve got this little carrying case, bag, what have you.
The HP Mini 1000 does not come with something like this. This is special for the Vivienne Tam version. And then, very hard to get your hands on this but the Vivienne Tam Edition also has a special Vivienne Tam mouse as you look there. So they’re really accessorizing this in making this as much a fashion statement as it is a piece of technology. And actually to that point, if you would approach this–the Vivienne Tam Edition Notebook, use to takes hundred bucks but if you threw in an extra hundred then you get a Vivienne Tam tote bag and scarf that have the exact same design that you see here. So you can actually–you just bring out yourself a Vivienne Tam goodness for an extra hundred bucks and have your little digital clutch there as well.
The fun little computers, again, very lightweight and portable, this thing is still making noise. I don’t know what’s going on here. This is absurd. But for 329 starting price for the HP Mini Me version with Linux and 600 for the special edition Vivienne Tam version with–comes with extra accessories and you get the–to get you accessorize it out, if you want to spend even more money with the scarves and the tote bags and the mouse. These mice are actually not sold in the United States but we will be giving away a couple of them on gearlive.com. But if you’re in Europe, you’re in luck because you can take one of this up very easily.
