What’s up! I’m Brian Tong and welcome to the Applebyte. There is a ton of product news and
will get to all of it so let’s start with the refresh Mac desktop. Now we received so many emails
asking for the new iMacs and your wishes have finally been granted. The new iMac lines still
comes in 20 inch and 24 inch levers rocking into a Core Duo processors up to 3 gigahertz but the
big selling point the new entry level 24 inch iMac it’s 1499 and that was the price of the previous
24 inch iMac. So there is a lot more bang for your back there.
Now Mac mini is get some graphic of muscle featuring the same Invidia 9400 and innovative
graphic card in Mac Books. Apples also telling the Mac mini as the world most energy efficient
desktop so I’m guessing we might see another TV commercial with those cute little green
doodles pricing starts at 599. Now for all you Pro users the updated Mac Pro’s features Intel’s
quad core Nehalem Xeon Processors. The power house desktop will give the Pro users two times
the performance over previous models and there is an option for a dual processor eight core
model that’s crazy pricing starts at 2499. Now to me this was the most impressive announcement
out of the bunch because this might be the first commercially available desktop featuring the
Nehalem processors. And remember that 24 inch LED display with the mini display port adaptor
that was proprietary it only work with the Mac book family but it’s now compatible with the
entire desktop line, thank you.
Now let’s break this up with some fun stuffs because we still have a lot of more product is
coming. And the most recent issue of Vogue magazine which I happen to read a lot, Melinda
Gates the wife of Mr. Bill Gates tells Vogue there are very few things that are on the bond list in
our household but iPod and iPhones are two things we don’t get for our kids. That’s sounds like
a really dark place, like could you guys imagine a world without iPods or iPhones because base
on combine sells about 200 million people can’t either. Melinda did say, every now and then I
look at my friends and say Oh I wouldn’t mind having that iPhone then Bill Gates immediately
ended the interview. But in all seriousness the pleiotropic work worldwide is amazing and this
was just the sweet little blur by had to bring up. Now speaking of sweets you like this transition,
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice pod. What? Well Norwegian ice cream maker
Hennig Olsen has announced plans to make a chocolate covered ice bar shape like the iPod
classic. Now look at that packaging will all those ciliates, men that is our original. Now each ice
pod will also come with access to a free song download by annual region artist. I love this so you
know I did some research on iTunes and I really hope they get this Norwegian daddy.
Guy’s ice pods are in production and our expected to head a Norwegian 7/11 near you in March.
Okay let’s jump back into more product news. The airport extreme and time capsule are giving
us some new features. The first is simultaneous duo band support which allows your wireless
products connect on the best available band. So what that means is your 80211N products will
run on there optimal five gigahertz band and your 80211B and G products will run onto the 2.4
gigahertz band before that they would switch down to a mix mode that just wasn’t as affective.
Now another update is the ability to create a gas network to friends or your primary network with
attach devices like printers and hard drives will stay secured on its own that’s pretty sweet. And
if you are a mobile me user you can register your airport extreme or time capsule and access any
file on a hard drive connected to them. Now a few quick bites the high in 15 inch Mac book
receive a little speed bump to 2.66 gigahertz processor, the 15 inch and 17 inch models now have
an upgrade option to a 2.93 gigahertz processor and the 256 gigs all stay drive is now on option
available for 15 inch Mac Book Pro’s and the Mac Book line if you guys can get that all just
rewind and watch it again.
okay so we need to dress this because I receive an overwhelming amount of emails about my
cove flow comments so here’s a first stop Louis King says, cover flow in safari is the best
implantation and I guessing you man implementation I’ve seen of it ever, I remember my history
for there design rather than there content because I’m a designer. Which is what I need to look at
more most, I think you got a wrong with putting it in the bad Apple category. Smiley face, thank
you very much. okay, this ones from Frederick Seglem, Brian Tong your wrong, I think it’s
genius because if you’re looking for an awesome article you read some time ago and you don’t
remember from which site it was from coverflow makes it easier to find it because you can see it
instead of entering it, okay thanks for that. Now, Brad wrote, Brian not every feature is for
everyone, when a cool feature like cover flow is added don’t diss it, you are tech savvy think
about older people who might benefit from such an easy to use feature. So okay Apply biters I
hear you, so what I did is I talk to my much older peers and I apologize for dissing your beloved
cover flow, I am sorry. Are you guys happy now? Okay, remember to send your emails to the
applebyte@cnet.com and will get you as many as we can. I’m Brian Tong and thanks for
watching and comeback next time for another bite of the Apple.
We finally get to look at the garment newbie phone, Google labs launches a podcast pearl and
Yahoo launch you to pay a penny to fight span. Its Monday August 24th I’m Natali Del Conte
and it’s time to get loaded.
Amazon give in on the candles new text to speech ability, publishers will now be able to decide
whether the candle to will be allowed to read there books a loud in a computerize voice. Initially
this capability was available to all books but the authors gilled objected calling it a derivative
performance and thus in violation of copyright law. Amazon maintains that the feature is still
legal but nonetheless we’re landed to a piece publishers and writers, this is so silly. I think I
might just boycott the works of any author that denies Amazon the type of speech function out of
principle. The Kindle has a competition from Hearst publisher soon, rumors are flip that the
publishers may develop its own electronic reader with an emphasis on magazines and
newspapers which is of course there core business. This when the two terribly surprising giving
the fact that Hearst is an investor an Eink which is the company that provide the core technology
behind the candle and the Sony reader but we don’t know much more about the content, delivery
plan or hardware. What we do know is that it’s inhabitable that Amazon and Sony will get more
a competition on this market.
Speaking of the Sony reader you can now get a special James Bond edition. The reader itself is
not different but it comes with two free planning books Casino Royale and For your Eyes Only.
It comes with an double O in boost cover it cost $299 which is the same price as the none double
O seven version kind of a cool gift for Bond fans although with James Bond use an eReader
seems like an old gadget for a man of action, what do you think right in at loaded at cnet.com.
For Die Hard Mac addicts some would argue that there is no better browser than Camino will
now they can rejoice with the version to beta. It features the latest version of Mozilla’s Gecko
rendering engine, in addition it ties into Mac OS 10 core technologies like keychain for storing
password and Coco for TY and also supports drag and drop tabs and better book mark candling
its available now at caminobrowser.org. Skype launch the service called Skype to go late last
week it will coming in handy when you’re travelling and the one to pay half the international
calling rates. Instead you just dial Skype to go number from any phone and will be routed to
make calls from and central voice calling service from the there you can call any number you
would like.
Skype to go numbers are locals to include in your phones plan, you will be charge regular Skype
rates. This is certainly much cheaper than paying international rates on your mobile plan if you
want to do the maps for yourself to skype.com/allfeatures/togo. This next story is slightly self
promotional, there is a new tv.com iPhone application and if you have an iPhone I think you
should check it out because you can watch loaded there. Tv.com is of course the CBS property
so you ca get CBS shows and newscast plus content from the CW, Showtime, Chow, Game Spot
and of course CNET. In fact a viewer named Robert twittered me over the weekend to inform me
that you can find loaded listed between letterman and McGyver which maybe the coolest thing
I’ve heard in 2009.
Android users I’m hoping will get you an application soon so sit tight. People seem to beginning
rid of there Nokia phones and really an orthodox wastes these days. Wisconsin found one in the
bag of rippled potato chips. The phone didn’t work possibly because it has been leaving in the
bag of salt and grease. In the same week a pair of fishermen in the UK found the working Nokia
phone inside the belly of a fish that they caught. It belong to a business man who lost it on the
beach where it was swallowed by the fish when the found was found in the belly of the fish
which I find biblically ironic its still work. I would hope the original owner doesn’t opt to keep
using that phone will never smell good again. those are your headlines for today but I will see
you right here tomorrow, thank you for watching I’m Natali Del Conte with CNET TV and you
just been loaded.
Hey I’m Mark setting for Natali Del Conte this week she’s on vacation. 3 way of news on a
Nokia netbook this is a set date for snow leopard and what happen to the pirate bay. It’s Tuesday
August 25th it’s time to get loaded.
At number five, the HTC Hero, that’s right sprint costumers are much more interested in the
Hero than the palm pre. That’s good news for Google who makes its android operating system,
it’s added that it just came out in October and yet somehow it feels kind old. Coming in the
number four, the iPhone 3GS I’m talking about old and what’s really interesting here is that you
seen that users are more interested in the iPhone now that’s out for seven months than you we’re
before. Its way in the product psycho people and they’re just going to get hard book. Up to
number three, the Droid Eris, the mini me to Motorola’s Droid and at 80 bucks it’s kind of
smoking deal especially for all the features you get and I guess the aging Android 1.5 OS doesn’t
bother you much. Sliding at the number two, Droid it was the darling of the smart phone world
this holiday season and they adds that really captured the heart of AT&T haters. Plus even if you
forget all about his back in forth this smart phone was it’s a pretty good phone. Before we get to
number one it is time for another lame price, it seems so long ago another decade back then
President Obama had just been inaugurated the Pittsburg stiller were super ball champions and
Kelly Clarkson, remember her she role the airwaves with my life would soak without you. What
was the most popular product of that heady time of February 2009? We want the first ten people
to answer correctly and blog that scene at tv.com and you could be chosen to win this collection
of three Silicon Valley swag t-shirt. Alright let’s get to our number one, the product with largest
number of seen that fans drawing over it this pass month. At number one it’s the HTC Nexus
one, okay that is ridiculous not only on all of the items on this list phones but three of them are
HTC phones. Break up HTC and Google went all Apple on this earlier this month and announce
the Nexus one right before CES and you all spent all month go in gaga over it. No outlook
calendar sink, no hands free Bluetooth, no problem you had it anyway. Will that’s it for this
edition of seeing the top 5 and don’t forget to answer the trivia question to a chance to win the
tech industry swag t-shirt. It’s like you shop at the Silicon Valley store without having to Google
one. I’m Tom Merritt.
