Mike Agerbo: If you’re like me, you probably have thousands of digital photographs sitting on your hard drive. How do you get the best print? Well, we’re going to find out from our friends at Hewlett-Packard.
And now, we’re going to look at the latest in printer technology. For the home, we’ve got Vernon Coutinho from HP with us. Thanks for coming on the show.
Vernon Coutinho: Thanks Mike.
Mike Agerbo: So, you know just looking at some of the quality here I mean, this is truly photo lab quality that you can get right at home.
Vernon Coutinho: It’s absolutely photo lab quality. It’s also amazing in terms of how fast and how long this photographs last. They typically last 73 years or more now, so better than photo lab in a lot of cases, yes.
Mike Agerbo: Well, that has been a big issue with a lot of folks. I know they look at some of the prints they made with their printers back you know five or six years ago and they are fading already.
Vernon Coutinho: Exactly but the current photo quality as well as the amount of—it has, it’s really hard to be able to differentiate between a photo lab and from a normal printer now. The quality is amazing. So, this is a classic example of how vibrant the colors can be from a photo printer.
Mike Agerbo: So, what are we looking at? Is that the ink technology and the paper combine?
Vernon Coutinho: Well first of all, hopefully you’re starting with a good picture.
Mike Agerbo: Yes.
Vernon Coutinho: Then the three components of make great printing, one is obviously good for a printer, secondly is great photo paper and of course using the right ink cartridges because the ink and paper and printer combine give you a fantastic results.
Mike Agerbo: Well, let’s have a look at this one, this is an all-in-one and it’s also networkable as well.
Vernon Coutinho: That is right. So, this printer is amazing because it addresses a lot of different customer sets. As you know notebooks have already taken off and of course notebooks being wireless, we want the printer to be wireless too basically cut the call. You don’t have to run back to the printer everytime you need to print. The other neat thing that makes it a great photo printer, it has a photo tray so it’s got a 4x6 photo tray right here. So, what that helps is that starts making a mistakes where you, you know, you print and then you realize you have a wrong paper or you’re having to swap paper all the time. And then all our photo printers have some great features like Red Eye Removal which is a one touch button. Once you put your memory card in here, all you do is press right—and it takes out the red out in the picture automatically.
Mike Agerbo: Well, that is nice thing about being wireless now. You can actually put this is a central occasion in the house. It does not have to be tethered to computer, I mean that is basically the family’s photo lab.
Vernon Coutinho: Absolutely and the cost has come down substantially. This particular printer takes five cartridges, one just for text which of course is a which is what most people print most of the time which is black and then we have four colors, a black and three different colors, each of these cartridges are just 11.99 so very reasonable in terms of cost. The printer itself is 199, so you’re getting wireless, all the photo features on there, the Red Eye Removal, as well as very reasonably price in terms of supplies.
Mike Agerbo: Well, let’s have a look at the smaller one here, this is a kind of a mini printer.
Vernon Coutinho: That is right. It’s a compact photo printer and this case is actually portable because you do have a handle on it. This is great for people who either don’t want to get connected to a computer every time they will need to print a picture or they already have a printer, they just want photos. It’s a touch screen so you can actually tap the screen and you can make changes on there. It has a lot of editing features on the actual printer. You can also add frames and borders like I’ve just done over here and the other thing is that you can even put in captions either type them in, it’ll give you a little screen on the touch screen or you can write like free form handwriting.
So, a lot of creative features right on the printer. You can get an optional battery pack for it and you won’t even have to power for it, so you will be able to—you will be able to print on the go. The other neat thing about it is we made it very economical in terms of print quality as well as the amount of pages you get from it. You can get a photo value pack for this particular printer. It has the right amount of ink and a 120 pages and all for around $40.00 which works out to between 26 and 29 cents of print, very reasonable for the convenience for printing at home.
Mike Agerbo: Well, I love the fact that it’s portable, you can get a battery for them, you could take that thing to birthday parties, or barbecues or pretty well anything and just you know take pictures and instantly get those pictures out to everyone.
Vernon Coutinho: Right and this is a great gift as well, it’s a $149.00. It’s also very compact so the great thing about it, it does not end up being in your computer den or whatever the computer sets. It’s a great second printer; great photo printer tool for customers.
Mike Agerbo: Well, it’s great for people too that don’t want the hassle of hooking everything up to a computer as well, they just have to have the camera and the printers
Vernon Coutinho: That is right. And you don’t even need a camera actually because well you can connect it directly to the camera, it takes multitude of cards, you know, and the options are for the customer then they can do what they like with it.
Mike Agerbo: And where can people find out more information about this and things like the value pack as well.
Vernon Coutinho: All our printers available on hp.ca as well—so you’d be able to see demos for the printers as well as compare different printers, get all the information that you need in ones great spot hp.ca.
Mike Agerbo: Thanks for joining us Vernon.
Vernon Coutinho: Thank you Mike.
