HP's TouchSmart UI Part 1 - Tech Review
Welcome to another DigitalLifestyle.com video show, and this video, I’m going to have a look at the HP TouchSmart touch UI, which is an addition UI on top of Windows just designed for touch. So we’re going to look at some of the music and pictures and web browser and all features of the touch UI. So this is the regular desktop, I’m just going to start touch UI by pressing the button that’s down here. Okay, so this is just loaded up, so let’s have a look around the UI. And the first thing is that you got a section of big tiles up here which are the main applications and you got some applications at the bottom which a shortcut, which you can drag up which will have a look at the moment. So, we’re up here, we got photos, we got calendar, notes, music, and see I can flip those, so that’s how we go to photos, we just press on there. And then you get photos sorted in different ways. You can make folders, I got these in dates at the moment, so I can have a look at the different dates, so let’s have a look at, I don’t know. Let’s go to the one under here. So, looking at 2008 and I can look at January, and this should be some pictures from the CES. It’s a lot of miscellaneous pictures in there, so open this one. Do a crop. I can change that. And crop. So I can do things like rotate, see how it spins. And if there’s any red eye, I could do that, so let’s have a look at other pictures, I got one with red eye here, after that, these are from CES. And I could do a slide show, I can upload those, I can flip to different dates. What I really like about, it’s very responsive, and I, as I scroll around and if I just went to slide show button and that goes, it’s off to the slide show. I can fast forward through it. Doing all sorts of rubbish in this folder, that’s some pictures from CES. Okay, so there we got one picture with red eye on. So that’s photos, viewing photos, nice and easy, you go back, always the home button at the top, all it does is try and get you back to the desktop. And also the pictures, while it’s continually dating those photos, so it’s quite nice to leave it on the back drop and just leave this on and you’ll notice that it keeps changing the pictures which are quite nice as well. And we’ve got videos, for now I go to the videos section, just tap on that. Again I could choose, so let’s go for July, and interesting here, now you’ll see some videos from BBC that I’ve downloaded, so I can watch on there. There’s some that I talk at Silver Star and see those. So let’s try a video, see what that’s like. And I can, and that’s why I’m watching the video. And see down here, I’m looking July, if I change this to last save date, then we’ll see some recorded TV content, so I could have a look here it show that I recorded on media center. This is recorded TV, recorded from media center. So, it’s a really nice way of playing recorded TV. So other things you got, you got upload TV button on there, you can delete it, rename it and you got the thing last 30 days, so I can go to January and again you’ll see, you’ll see last videos. I should also mention you got expand views as well, so I can look at the thumbnails of the videos, and let me go back to photos. So, I want to show you this, so I’m here in the photos, I go back to, see have a look at some of these, and do the pan view and that’s looking at the folders. It looks like it to fills in the details as you go along. There’s a really nice way of picking up folders and find the folder you want. And then, very nice, easy way looking at folders. So that’s video, music, let’s look at music. Say I wanted to play now, but, you can just tap to start playing that. Yeah, that’s playing now, and that’s going to play through sequentially, and if I shuffled it, let me shuffle. Let’s create a playlist, just drag the songs in, and I’ve got my own playlist. You need to create, transport control’s up here, pause that, this is a nice way to view music. It’s just really, just like, you know, playing, when you go through, you see this sharpen when you’re looking at different CDs, this is very nice, flick through what you want to listen to. Hit album, hit play, and that starts up playing. Alright, let’s go back to normal view and, I look for the album that I want in here. So the playlist on there, I can drag those in, create my own playlist. I can then save those, so music is really nice, I just especially like this, this view. And you notice, it’s very, nice like it follows your finger, it can pick up the speed that you do or if you move slowly, select that. So that’s the music. We got something I have not really knew very much, you got a calendar, so you found your calendar, you can put those in, so I can add an event in there and I can put event title in. Two ways I can to, I can use a keyboard, so I got a keyboard here, I can use that or I could use the tele PC keyboard, very simple. Create advice. Create an event, save that and it goes in to the calendar. So I’ve not started using that yet, but I think it’s something that you might use in the family. We’ve got notes on here, so you can leave audio note, picture notes and create a new note and I’ll pick a pen and view along and color, create color. We can, thicker. I can add text in, again, using the touch keyboard. So you can create notes, so you can imagine this, you create family notes and put those up on there. So that’s some, the cool functions of it. I like some of these extra functions we’ve got down here.
