HP's TouchSmart UI Part 2 - Tech Review
Some of these I’ve added myself, so there’s things like clock, pretty straight forward, I put three different times on, so I got UK time, New York and Las Vegas, quite idea where I work at, put them into in. We got weather application, you can put in your locations and it always says prevailing, and that’s being there or that’s just a property software, we got straight forward forecast anyway, nice and simple, just see what the weather is doing, and you got the daily weather. There’s shortcut to the Windows games which you can see in here, I got shortcut to media center which I will show you, on the world wide telescope to show you in the moment. One thing I like is there’s our research reader so the MSNBC on that, so you can pick an RSSV, so let’s go with that one. Pick the shortcut button for Internet Explorer, that fires up Internet Explorer and can read the article. So now you got full text on there, but, I think that depends on the feed as well, I can click back to that. So the RS, RSV is quite nice, but what is also nice is you can put a full website in there, and the thumbnails across the bottom are as well. Here’s my site, and I can look at the blog and I can scroll up and scroll left to right as well. So this is a nice way of reading a website, I think it’s using Internet Explorer as it’s back end engine, but it’s a nice simple way of keeping a way easing your way to the website. You can click on links and it even stops pop ups when, you know, when an extra window comes up into the website you can click. I can also drag that upwards in the tile there, which is a live thumbnail, I don’t know if you can see pick up the camera but, it’s changing, so, go down here. And finally, I will add early option. Well this is the old spot website. So again, you can add the website on there, it’s constantly updating, so, I haven’t refresh this page and it seems that it just done it when the website, or it’s probably when I reloaded the, the application to the video, so put things in like. There’s a Twitter page, so I can have my Twitter account, and we got Google reader working on it, I find this good. You can just read those. A very nice, nice way of reading RSSVs. So as well as having an RSSV reader, I find using Google reader probably better, coz you got all your regular feeds in one go. So, I mention that it can shell out all the programs, so let me show you an example of that. So this is Access World Wide Telescope, which is created a shortcut from. So this is a great touch application I can move around and look at the planets and let’s have a look at solar system, Jupiter, you don’t also not touch the mouse or the keyboard to this. So it works really well, it’s designed for the mouse and keyboard, this, the world wide telescope, but it actually work pretty well on this, on the touch screen. A nice example of using the touch screen for a none touch design application, when you’re finish the application, you quit it and it takes you straight back in. Remember these tiles you can personalize. You can have applications. You can have up here or down there, whatever you want to do. So, there’s something else I want to show is the kids paint program. This is actually a freeware paint application for kids, and my kids really love it, but I thought I’m going to show off how a mouse base application works really well on this, so, I create a new picture and let’s get. You’ll see my fantastic artistic abilities. Okay, the kids actually love it, it’s a really nice way of painting, and they really enjoy interacting with it and sort of playing around, play around with and do stuff with it, it’s sure okay. Great. For application for the kids, they really like that such stuff like that one. So let’s look at how our media center works with the touch UI, I probably show this before in touch UNPC. I want to show you how well this works as well. So, I can pick the channel guide, go to recorded TV, pan extender, I don’t want that. So it makes a really good media center machine. Very, very responsive. I got, well, you can’t drag it across like you can on the HP software, still is a nice easy way of going through your music. So it works real nice, so you can log it up, live TV and you can go straight to live TV, so, nice quick way. Keyboard or mouse, we got it there. And that’s all from the touch UI software, as well as the shortcuts, I just set the shortcut button in the really smart software. Okay, so, and just before finishing out, I found a picture with some red eye in it, so I got a picture, I just go to fix red eye, draw around the red eye, done. Well you might be, okay, instead of using the mouse, I found my kid to really enjoy playing around with photos on the, on the TouchSmart, whereas they wouldn’t bother with the mouse, it’s just more intuitive, save that. And done. So thanks watching this video on the HP TouchSmart, I try to give a feel of how using it, like I said, kids love them, they just want the painting program, they will play with the file photos and play the music on and everything else. I find it being good with the media center stuff and for the music as well. So it does a really nice system, but if you can live with a compromise of not having some PCI, PCI express expansion, then it’s a good machine, it’s got a built in tuner card, I’ve added a USB two tuner card for it and that works fine as well. So overall, I’m really impress, it really do look and feel the touch UI, it’s really nice to use, and I think some other things like the Google reader, having those until you can just tap it and comes on, really make it so it’s a very immediate system. It’s pretty fast anyway, but you can just go straight to it, straight to your webpage, you get your information that you want to. It’s a very nice browsing kit, just coming to it and playing with it. So thanks for watching this video, I’ll see you around on DigitalLifestyle.com. Bye.
