Hank Williams Box
Audra Lowe: Hank Williams is known as the legend in the music industry. Now,
fans have a new way to hear his history and also into his music.
Rhiannon spoke with his daughter Jett to find out more.
Jett Williams: It’s not just country music. It’s still precedes that music. It’s
universal. It’s worldwide.
Rhiannon Ally: This is Jett Williams, Hank’s daughter born just days after his
death in 1953.
Jett Williams: For me to travel the world as his daughter and have people come
up and tell me what he meant to them and what his music has been
a part of their life, it really does humble me and the fact that this
guy that I didn’t get to know had such an impact on so many
people.
Rhiannon Ally: Jett says her dad’s music touches people of all ages even those
growing up in the new digital age.
Jett Williams: “I always knew your dad on the internet and he is cool.” They’re
wearing the t-shirts and they’ve really gotten -- I think people
wanted to go more back to roots. People are really looking for the
real fun, something that’s authentic, something that they can hold
on to they could actually listen to.
Rhiannon Ally: Now there’s more of Hank to hold on to. The new box set includes
radio shows from the 50’s that Jett says will be in a whole new
picture of her dad.
Jett Williams: Unfortunately most people want to paint only the dark side or a
dark side of him as this tragic figure that you know dad so young
but had all of these problems and so lonely and so depressed. He
had a happy side. He had a joyful side. He had a funny side.
Rhiannon Ally: For Jett, she’s just happy to share her dad with the world. She says
he’d be happy that her and Hank Williams Jr. are keeping his
music alive.
Jett Williams: And to make sure that when it was released that it would be
something that he would be proud of and I think that Hank Jr. now
have accomplished that with the help of time life and putting
together this beautiful box set.
Rhiannon: For Better, I’m Rhiannon.
