Alright, next drill we're going to do is what I call the Walk-up Drill, and for kids who see this are going to think it's something that they saw in a movie called Happy Gilmore. But again, you will see the purpose of it, and actually Happy Gilmore did a good job of actually demonstrating this drill in golf with the same purpose that we are going to have with baseball. And the drill -- it kind of looks like this and we'll walk you through it, go ahead and back up here. And the idea for this drill is, we can concentrate on our weight shift getting our weight through the baseball. A lot of kids have a tendency not to use their lower half or their hips very well, they get two rotation or what have you. In this drill right here is going to help you work on getting your hips and your momentum through the baseball because you are going to have to with what we are going to make the hitter do.
Alright, slowly what we want to do obviously you soon want to end up in the same hitting position that you normally would off the tee. So you need to figure that out ahead of time. But the hitter is going to stand back approximately one step back behind where they normally would hit and as you can see what they were, where you have been working here you can see the general back-foot, front-foot position for the Tee. what we want to do is step through with our back-foot into where we had our back-foot normally, get our front-foot down into where we had before and that will be a situation where that point is we step through our hands would already be in the loaded position and then we are going to swing through the baseline.
So as you do it quickly obviously you are going to step through plan, and swing all at once so our momentum is going back towards the pitcher, but really the most important thing is that the hitter as they go through this drill can really feel what it's like to get the hips going through the baseball. I am really driving through the baseball because you've already picked up speed as you are going to point in contact, I am going to demonstrate it for you.
And that is probably half speed and what we want to do there is then we want to work up to a little bit faster where we are kind of stepping and planning and going through the whole swing all in one motion, so we kind of give it up a little bit of momentum. Go ahead!
Alright, so you can see here the back-foot is through, the hips are through, everything getting through the baseball, and because of that speed being built up a little bit as you don't get to do when you hit it helps you get a feel for the hips getting through the baseball.
