Ben Freedman: And I’m Ben Freedman, week two of 2008 and that’s the last time I’m going to remember to say that. Tiffany Young: Week two dude so right now he is tracking 07. Ben Freedman: I’m going to be a like week 24 of 2008. Tiffany Young: I know. Ben Freedman: If I’m far you won’t forget that. Tiffany Young: Gosh like you know, well how long have we been in the air now? Ben Freedman: Well, April we’ll be two years. Tiffany Young: April we’ll be two years. Ben Freedman: So, it’s almost two years. Tiffany Young: Yeah, two years of fun and lots of gadgets. I wonder how many products we have reviewed. Ben Freedman: Lots and we’ve got 200 episodes coming up on here on the site. Tiffany Young: Wow! That’s something. Ben Freedman: In fact I think next month will be our 200 episodes. We’ll have to mention that and do a little oh! Tiffany Young: Something, yeah blow horn, throw some confetti or something. Ben Freedman: Anyway, today in the first two sections, so everyone out there I’m sure is familiar with what a TiVo is you know, or it used to be a replay TV as well but now it’s mostly just TiVo. TiVo is what they call a ‘time shifter’ in that instead of watching a show at 4:00 o’clock you record it and you watch it at 4:30 or 5:00 o’clock. You can even watch before it’s done. Tiffany Young: It’s like back to the future only forward to the future. Ben Freedman: Yes. Tiffany Young: Yes Ben Freedman: That’s exactly what it’s like, a wonderful analogy. Tiffany Young: Thanks. Ben Freedman: So, it’s definitely called a time shifter. Tiffany Young: That what so sincere I can hardly stand it. Ben Freedman: So, there’s a new category of the product coming out called ‘place shifting’ where you don’t necessarily watch the TV at a different time, but you watch it in a different place. Tiffany Young: Okay, so much like sling box or sling box. Ben Freedman: Sling box is a place shifter now. Tiffany Young: Yeah. Ben Freedman: And sling box is a good one although the one we’re looking at today has some more features and as little as expensive than the sling box so I quite like this guy. Tiffany Young: Go ahead. Ben Freedman: This is by company called HAVA. This is the HAVA Titanium HD. Tiffany Young: I’ve got a HAVA. Ben Freedman: Oh, I’ve got a HAVA. I’ve got a HAVA, HAVA. Tiffany Young: I’ve got a HAVA, HAVA. I like it. Ben Freedman: It’s a perfect marketing slogan. Tiffany Young: Yeah, so it’s very nice. Ben Freedman: You’ll notice a very small little box and basically what you do is you check this and you hook it up to your TV, your cable box, your TiVo, you know a couple of different outputs and unlike the sling box this comes with everything you need to hook it up to HDTV, so if you have a high def cable? Tiffany Young: Oh, sure. Ben Freedman: You can hook up to high def. Tiffany Young: Oh! Ben Freedman: And it will send a high def signal. Tiffany Young: The sling box doesn’t have that? Ben Freedman: You do have to buy extra cables. Tiffany Young: Oh! I see. Ben Freedman: If I like extra stuff. Tiffany Young: Okay. Ben Freedman: On the top of the purchase price that’s why it’s HD connect cable. This comes with that. So, you get all the cables in here then you are to plug into an Ethernet connection or if you’re like most people while your TV is not next to router it comes with again, and this is another thing with sling box you’ve got to buy extra but it have included. It comes with a Wi-Fi adapter, so the Wi-Fi adapter plugs into one of your USB ports like so. Tiffany Young: That is just so cool. Ben Freedman: A dongle, yes and now it’s on the Wi-Fi. Tiffany Young: Okay, so this is my thought instead of buying another we actually need another TV for the bedroom. Ben Freedman: Right. Tiffany Young: So instead of buying another bedroom TV I have a 17-inch laptop maybe worth couple of hundred bucks. It’s last year’s model that I paid like $1500.00 for but I’m actually just reformat the hard drive and use this. Ben Freedman: That’s right. Tiffany Young: In the other bedroom. I mean why not. Ben Freedman: So it has a thing called an IR blaster. You ran a little cable out and you stick that on your cable box, so when you change channel in your bedroom this sends the infrared signal to your cable box to change the channel. Tiffany Young: Wow! Ben Freedman: You’ll take a look it’s got S-video in, HD-in, S-video out, HD out for it to the pass through, so you can put your signal in and signal out and you can do exactly what you said. Not only if you want your TV from your bedroom. The software comes with dual record, so you could be recording one show in your living room and record a different show on your computer in your bedroom. Tiffany Young: Hopefully not in high definition though. Ben Freedman: You can record it in high definition. Tiffany Young: Well, doing a high definition you have to have a one terabyte. Ben Freedman: It takes a little bit of a hard drive space if you can see that. Tiffany Young: Yeah, my computers will start smoking. Ben Freedman: Oh yes, if you need a new computer for HD this is it. You can also watch it from across the internet, so if you want like go to a hotel and you can log back into your home computer and watch your TV at home from your hotel. Tiffany Young: Oh! Gosh, isn’t technology the best? Ben Freedman: It’s fantastic. I want you to carry that. Tiffany Young: It’s so exciting. Ben Freedman: And you don’t have Fox News off in Canada. Tiffany Young: Yeah. Ben Freedman: So I use this to watch Fox News at home from my hotel room up in Canada. Tiffany Young: And you know why it’s not that hard to set up. Ben Freedman: It’s not. It’s actually very easy. Tiffany Young: I mean things are just not, they are not as complicated as they look. When you see something like this you go, “Oh, my gosh, there’s wires.” All you have to do is take five seconds to sit down and look at it, read the directions and I think they probably have techno this brand or two. Ben Freedman: They do and they have the software. It is easily installed. Tiffany Young: It’s the sticker that says, “Wait, don’t return it. Call this number.” Ben Freedman: You don’t return this product. It’s probably not broken. It’s probably you. Tiffany Young: You get a live person in India. Did you reach that three? Isn’t plug in? Ben Freedman: So, this is 250 for this box. I’ve got for the high deck version with the Wi-Fi and the cables. Tiffany Young: Oh, it’s the best. Ben Freedman: So, it comes —250 is all you need to spend. Tiffany Young: Yeah. Ben Freedman: While the sling box like as you said which doesn’t have a DVR it doesn’t record. It doesn’t have the Wi-Fi. It doesn’t have the cables to connect to high depth, but it’s also like a 195 or 220 or something like that but when you add that all together it puts up well over the price. Tiffany Young: Well, I see people that I know are attaching their just their hard drives to there you know, their TiVo’s. This is such a nice alternative to having to put another hole in their computer. Ben Freedman: Yeah. Tiffany Young: But it has also a very compact design. Ben Freedman: Right. Tiffany Young: So out of print. Ben Freedman: So that is the HAVA Titanium HD. Tiffany Young: I’ve got a HAVA. Ben Freedman: I’ve got a HAVA. A HAVA, H-A-V-A. Their slogan is play your TV anywhere. It’s a place shifter. Tiffany Young: Oh! I love it. Ben Freedman: As supposed to time shifter. Tiffany Young: Great job and I love it they include the cables and then sale by the way you have to for an extra $100 we’ll get this really work. Ben Freedman: Now the software did crash only in a couple of times. Tiffany Young: Okay. Ben Freedman: And I also found that when you change the channel on your computer it took it like about 15 or 20 seconds before it change it at home on my TV. There’s a little delay, and now it’s HD, so it’s a lot of data it’s transferring. Tiffany Young: Sure. Ben Freedman: But there was a little delay there but I’m going to dock or point for those two things. I want to give it a four out of five because of the delay on changing of the channels and also because the software was a little buggy. It crashed a couple of times. Tiffany Young: Well, I think–no, I like it. Ben Freedman: Tiffany do I have this weird hair spiking up right here. Take a look. Tiffany Young: All you do you’re alfalfa. Ben Freedman: And you’ve been watching this and then you see this for four times. Tiffany Young: You know I was so into this I’ve got a HAVA. I didn’t notice. I’m sorry but I’m not a bad co-host. Ben Freedman: I don’t think this is a — you know— Tiffany Young: I’m going to give this –okay, now I have not tried to install the software. Ben Freedman: Right. Tiffany Young: So, you know I can’t really comment on that and I won’t have to go with your— Ben Freedman: Sure Tiffany Young: You know your thoughts but idea the idea and design of it is a five out of five for me. Ben Freedman: Yeah, it’s so small. Tiffany Young: Yeah. Ben Freedman: And that’s little small compact for 200 bucks. Tiffany Young: Oh! And for 200 bucks I’m going to replace everything that I’ve got now instead of spending you know. Ben Freedman: Yeah, on a big budget. Tiffany Young: 700 to a 1000, yeah. Ben Freedman: What was that five? Tiffany Young: The money factor it makes it worth it. Ben Freedman: Five out of five for Tiffany, four out of five for me. It’s nine out of 10. I think it’s about right for this box. It’s not quite perfect. It could be a couple of little things that delay if they can fix that delay and this software is a little more stable probably you know a .1 release to have a thing will come out with it but certainly not deal breakers. Tiffany Young: They don’t. Ben Freedman: Nine out of 10 for the HAVA Titanium HD and a great box if you want to place shift your television. Tiffany Young: Place shift, time shift. What’s next? Tiffany Young: What a fine looking box is it? Ben Freedman: It is a fine looking box. Note the square corners and barcode label on the bottom. Tiffany Young: And the shiny exterior. Ben Freedman: Yes, the reason why I’m looking at the box and not the product for today is because this is a product called PhoneValet by the company called Parliant, Parliant.com, the Phone Valet and what this is, is a Macintosh, Mac based phone answering system for your Macs, so you get a Mac at home and what it comes with is the picture of around here I’ll put a better of. It just comes with a little dongle. The dongle plugs into your USB port and the other end plugs into a phone line that’s it. Tiffany Young: Wow! Ben Freedman: Otherwise, that is it okay. Tiffany Young: That’s easy. Ben Freedman: Yeah, one end goes on your phone line one goes to USB port that’s it, so it’s not much to look at. It’s a very small little product and what it does is it allows you to create you know the press one for this press two for that kind of answering system right on your Mac, so you’ve got like a Mac I have a Mac mini at home that it does records TV and is attached for me. I have to set up here now with the reproductions. Let me give you a real life example of what we have here now. Tiffany Young: Please show us Ben. Ben Freedman: So, our parent company is Roo Productions right? Tiffany Young: Check. Ben Freedman: And I get a lot of calls from Roo Productions for you know people want to shoot videos but then we also have Neo-Fight and I get a lot of calls from Neo-Fight people who want us to review their products and people who want us you know to talk to me about advertising or whatever on Neo-Fight. And right now I answered the phone and like, “Oh, Roo Productions Neo-Fight you know. I’m like who is it?” And you know with my phone message it doesn’t reset, so what I’ve done with this is and it’s so easy to go in with the software. You say, “Okay, answer the phone after so many rings then tell the person press 1 for Neo-Fight, press 2 for Roo Productions, then press 1 and then it will say, “You know, press 1 if you want a leave a message press 2 to transfer to my cell phone. Tiffany Young: That’s nice, yeah. Ben Freedman: It’s very cool and it’s all done graphically. It’s very easy to set this up for up then to make your messages you just record to enter the computer your messages you know “Hi, this is Roo Productions” So, I have set up at home and my goal here low hi-tech goal is I’m going to call using Skype. I’m going to call my phone and then you’ll be able to hear this in action okay. Tiffany Young: Okay. Ben Freedman: Here we go we’re going to try to make this. Let me hold the mic. Tiffany Young: That sounds great. Ben Freedman: Yeah, and I’ll hold my mic kind of close to the thing here so you can hear, so here I’m going to click I have a program. Can you hear this? Okay, I have a program to answer on the third ring let’s see so it makes the calling on my here. Do you hear that? Calling, here it comes. Tiffany Young: Wait for it. Wait for it. Ben Freedman: Yeah, This is ring number 2, right? This is ring number 3. So, I’ll press 2. Tiffany Young: There we go. I like for you to review my ski boat. Ben Freedman: Yeah, that’s right. I’ve got a Lamborghini that is in desperate need of our review and if you would just review that for me or we’ll send you this Lamborghini and when you download it just keep it. Ben Freedman: Right, so here is the coolest thing that was now recording on my computer. Now not only will that wait on my computer that recorded that say. You saw how I how made that three I press 1 for Roo Productions press 2. Tiffany Young: Sure. Ben Freedman: Alright, not only that but now what happens is it will send that as an email to my computer. Tiffany Young: That’s so cool. Ben Freedman: And because I have an iPhone that I get that as an email message on my iPhone. Tiffany Young: Isn’t that the best? Ben Freedman: It’s an absolutely amazing, so now I’m only have to go get those messages. I have an iPhone and it works with any phone that would play audio files they get your email, so I work with the central like what you have you know. Tiffany Young: Wow! Ben Freedman: We’ll have you. I will now get that messages email to me, so only have to check. It just comes straight to me. Tiffany Young: Oh! That is wonderful. Ben Freedman: Now, I think first of all $170.00 and you can add as many of these as you want. If you want to do three or four lines you just buy more dongles. Tiffany Young: Boy that’s nice. Ben Freedman: You could control all those more lines. Tiffany Young: I mean that’s replaces our very, very expensive answering machine. Ben Freedman: Yeah or even a secretary for maybe you don’t need a secretary. Tiffany Young: A secretary that the phone line I mean the away that I just saw that people know about this and it just seem this is a wonderful tool for business. Ben Freedman: And so easy to uses I mean. Tiffany Young: Plus if you’re multi- dimension. Ben Freedman: This took an hour to set this set the whole thing up. Tiffany Young: Oh, that’s great. Ben Freedman: Yeah. Tiffany Young: Wow! I love it. I love it. I love it. Ben Freedman: So, I’ve got to tell you I think it’s a fantastic product. I give it a five out of five you know, so far it never crash I have it ringing for a month at my house is never crash you know, I've never taken the message. It does things like it allows you to transfer calls. I have a thing where you can press a button to be transferred to my cell phone, it emails you the messages and you can make this complicated or simple as you want. Ben Freedman: With a different mail box and the press it and gets email to him, your husband gets email to your husband, George got email to you. Tiffany Young: Yeah. Ben Freedman: You don’t have to listen to other people’s messages. Tiffany Young: Isn’t that great? And it’s email so you cannot go through them an almost like you know how the iPhone has all the messages, the visual. Ben Freedman: Yeah, very much for that.
