Part one of the head massage video shows a simple technique to relax the head area. These techniques releases tension and could sometimes even relieve headaches but it should also be an integral the part of every full body massage. The main technique that I used here is circular friction.
Put your hands on the scalp and use enough pressure to be able to move the scalp on the skull in a circular way. Do not just rub the skin. Try to work methodically so that you will cover all the areas of the head. You can go top to bottom, bottom to top from the back or back to front. I usually work bottom to top especially when I do this technique within a full body massage. The reason for that is that I work previously all the way up to the top of the neck and all I would try to work the head from the neckline all the way to the forehead and then finish the full body massage up with a face massage.
The movement will release adhesions and increase local circulation in the respective areas. Plus there are also a lot of flat muscles on the head. Massage will have to release tension in these muscles. This can be very beneficial for headaches as well for other conditions like TMJ Dysfunction Syndromes.
If you watch very closely, you will see that I moved my hand. I lift my hand to move from spot to spot. The reason for this is because especially when you work with long hair, there is a possibility that you might get caught in the hair which is very uncomfortable for the client. So, just try to move from spot to spot but at the same time make sure that you do not skip a spot. Try to follow a pattern or like a certain system and try to be as methodical as you can be. If you are not sure if you covered all the areas or if you are not sure if you cover the certain area just do it again.
